❓How do you currently oil your handpieces?

Lets run through some Pro's & Con's on the different ways of oiling to get a better understanding about handpiece oiling.

✅ Manual Oiling
Pro's:
- Lower initial cost – No need for expensive equipment; only handpiece oil and applicators are needed.
- Control & Customisation – Technicians can target specific areas and adjust for handpiece condition.
- No dependency on machine maintenance – Manual processes avoid potential machine breakdowns.

Con's:
- Time-consuming – Slower process, especially in busy practices with multiple handpieces.
- Inconsistency – Varies based on staff skill and attention to detail.
- Human error – Over-oiling or under-oiling can reduce lifespan and performance.

✅ Automated Oiling
Pro's:
- Speed and Efficiency – Processes multiple handpieces simultaneously, saving time.
- Consistent Results – Standardised quantity and method of oil application improve reliability.
- Improved Handpiece Longevity – Proper lubrication reduces internal wear and tear.

🛠️ Mastering the 4 Stages of Oiling Your Dental Handpiece 🦷💧

Keeping your dental handpiece in top condition requires regular oiling. Here’s a quick breakdown of the 4 essential stages to ensure smooth operation and longevity:

1. Remove the bur from the handpiece & wipe down the outside with an alcohol free wipe
2. Choose the pointed nozzle to oil into the head of the handpiece, using clean white tissue to be able to see any debris inside.
3. Choose the correct oiling adapter to then oil through the backend of the handpiece
4. After oiling, pouch the handpiece ready for sterilisation
