Anxiety and OCD can start very early in life. Be careful what those little minds are absorbing.
You might be the worst person in the world for a bit but they will thank you for it later in life.
Anyone else stopped their kids from using YouTube?
I used to not mind the little one watching bits on YouTube and although the likes of peppa pig, Elsia and Annia, kids playing with games etc I've never really felt like an issue. But recently the little one has started watching shorts and honestly… when you actually listen to what they’re watching, it’s absolute nonsense. Tung tung this, skibbidy that, is nonsense but I can tolerate even those in moderation.
But we were listening to the stuff she was actually listening to just there and its not ok like. Saying if you dont subscribe etc something bad will happen.
Thats not ok like. Manipulating kids to engage with content to maximise earnings is not acceptable. I've worked with lots of people with OCD and this is the exact sort of thing cant feed into it.
Animations of bad things happening and saying arguing with parents.
There’s nothing educational in it. No learning, no creativity, no value. Just loud, fast, meaningless content that’s basically trash.
If you have noticed the a change in your little ones tone of voice, answering back, attitude creeping in. It might sound dramatic, but we genuinely believe a lot is coming from this crap they are absorbing on there.
So for now, we’ve taken YouTube off the devices completely and we’re not using it. Not saying it’s forever, but it felt like the right call for us at the moment.
Anyone else done the same or noticed similar changes with their kids?
Also we do want to allow for some things that are beneficial and they can enjoy on the devices so if anyone has any recommendations of ehat they allow their little ones on I would like to hear them
