Teesside Hospice

Teesside Hospice We’re changing lives across Teesside by supporting people and families with terminal illnesses. We’re bringing people together.

Everybody gets treated as an individual, whether it’s physical, mental or emotional support they need from us. We support people to stay as independent as possible, for as long as possible. From patients, family and friends to our clinical team, counsellors, staff, volunteers and our fundraisers. We make sure that everyone gets to live well until the very end.

We’re incredibly proud to shine a spotlight on Emma, one of our amazing supporters. Emma's sister Alex and daughter Saskia will be taking on the Boxing Day Dip this year in support of Teesside Hospice, in memory of her husband Andrew 💜

"My husband spent his final days in the care of the most incredible hospice team — people who supported him with dignity, compassion, and genuine love. They didn’t just look after him… they looked after us as a family. Their kindness carried us through moments we never imagined facing. Throughout his battle with cancer the hospice has always been there supporting him.

This year, my amazing sister is raising money for the hospice by taking on a Boxing Day Dip (yes… straight into the freezing cold sea! ❄️🌊). I’m so proud of her for doing something brave and meaningful in his memory."

Thank you for choosing to support our hospice in such a brilliant way Emma 💜

If you’re feeling brave, festive and ready to make a difference, it's not too late for you to join us at the Redcar Beach Boxing Day Dip!

Have you got your Christmas Tree collection organised? 🎄

Did you know that in our 2025 campaign, our team of staff and volunteers helped us raise £42,500, save 2,254,000kg in CO2 emissions and recycle a total of 2,254 Christmas Trees across Middlesbrough, Stockton and Redcar and Cleveland! This year, we are aspiring to raise £45,000 and collect 3,000 Christmas Trees from households across Teesside. But we can’t do it without your support!

In association with Just Helping, our team of elves are collecting Christmas trees across Teesside’s postcodes from TS1 to TS29 and DL6 - DL7, on the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th January 2026. All you need to do is make a donation through registering your tree by midnight on Sunday 4th January! It’s the most convenient way to dispose of your Christmas tree without the hassle!

By making a donation to our campaign and recycling your Christmas tree with us, we promise to take care of your tree in the most environmentally responsible way. All Christmas trees will be chipped and recycled, reducing carbon emissions.

Your donation will contribute to creating memories for those who could be facing their last Christmas with Teesside Hospice this year. To ensure they can be comfortable, when spending their final moments with their family and loved ones ✨

Recycle your Christmas tree with Teesside Hospice and give the gift of love to families across our local community 🧑‍🎄

Thank you to cousins Ralphy and Finn who have raised money for Teesside Hospice through a sponsored walk in memory of their Nanna Mandy! ⭐

Ralphy walked from his Nannas house to Staithes, and Finn walked up Ingleborough Hill in the Yorkshire Dales, raising an amazing £1,266 between them!

Both were so proud to be able to help the people at our hospice, and Ralphy shared with us:

“I would like to raise money for Teesside Hospice they helped look after my poorly nanna back in July and gave my nanna the best quality of life with the care they provided and i want to be able to raise money so other families who have family members with a terminal illness get the care and help they need at such an incredibly hard and sad time.

My sponsored walk was our favourite walk together (when I finished school or on a weekend) which was to park at Cowbar and walk into Staithes, buy an ice cream and go to the beach and look for seashells.”

Thank you, Ralphy and Finn for this incredible achievement and support you have given to our hospice 💜

We’re so lucky to be supported by amazing volunteers over the festive season, who help us provide care, offer a friendly welcome for visitors, and much more. This includes Dawn, who has been volunteering with Teesside Hospice for 4 years and gives up her time on Christmas Day to help patients and visitors feel as special as possible. 🌟🎄

Dawn has even been selected to represent Teesside Hospice on Sara Davies’ Christmas Craft Off tv show, which will air on ITV1 on 19th December:

“I started my volunteering on the reception desk on the In-Patient Unit, then progressed onto the main reception where I meet and greet patients, families and visitors making them feel welcome with a bright smile.

I find volunteering very rewarding. I was a patient with lymphoedema and the treatment I received was absolutely first class, the nursing team were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble and that is why I wanted to give back to a deserving charity.

I think it is important to make the relatives of our patients feel welcome on this special day as it may be their loved one’s last Christmas so it can be a sad/happy occasion, so we try and make it extra special to make everlasting memories to cherish.”

Special evenings under the lights ✨

Thank you so much to our wonderful team and volunteers who helped run the events; St Barnabas Church, vicar David Goodhew, and their choir and organist for hosting us on Friday; Abbie Lince for a beautiful performance at our Hospice service; and Parfetts for supplying teas and coffees.

And thank you to everyone who came along to remember their loved ones, reflect, and make dedications to them. Your kindness truly helped Teesside shine last night and thanks to you, people who are at end of life can make special memories this Christmas, with the care and dignity that they deserve.

If you’d like to make a dedication this Christmas, you can do so on our digital Light Up A Life tree here: https://loom.ly/EBRxeP0. Our community trees will also be in Hillstreet Centre and Parkway Centre until the new year.

Grief can be difficult to manage, especially at Christmas. It’s important to take care of yourself and work out the best way for you to cope throughout the festive season.

Know that we’re here for you, when you need us. Here are some tips from our team on how to cope with grief at Christmas…

💜 Try planning how you’ll celebrate: You may feel it is better to not celebrate at all, or you might find you want to stick to some of your Christmas traditions
💜 Keep a routine: Christmas can disrupt ‘normal’ life, but keeping regular patterns of sleeping and eating can make a real difference
💜 Find ways to remember them: This could be as simple as visiting a place that was special to your loved one
💜 Talk to someone: Opening up to family, friends, or colleagues about how you’re feeling is one of the most supportive steps you can take. Sharing your thoughts not only helps lighten the load but also gives others the chance to be there for you.

If your loss or bereavement was more than 6 months ago, we can provide counselling and support. To find out more, visit https://loom.ly/59bIVjw.

It’s the most popular time of the year to get your Christmas tree, and this Christmas, we’re aspiring to collect 3000 recycled Christmas trees, in the aim to raise over £45,000 for those living with a terminal illness in Teesside. But we can’t do it without your support!

We all love having a real Christmas tree over the festive period until it comes to disposing of it. By making a donation through registering your tree by midnight on Sunday 4th January 2026, our team of dedicated volunteers will come and collect your tree between 8th - 11th January 2026.

So what do you need to know? In association with Just Helping, our team of Christmas elves are collecting trees across the postcodes TS1 to TS29, as well as DL6 - DL7, and will take care of them in the most environmentally responsible way. We’d like to give a huge thank you to the incredible Stokesley Support Group, who continue to go above and beyond in support of Teesside Hospice 💜

The group recently held their annual Stokesley Christmas Fayre at the local town hall, with festive treats like tea, coffee, mince pies and homemade soup, plus a raffle, tombola, cake stall and brilliant musical entertainment from Stokesley Primary School and local musician Kai Valentine. It was a wonderful community event to kick off the Christmas season!

Thank you to every member of the Stokesley Support Group for your continued dedication and kindness. We’re so grateful for everything you do! ⭐
