Teesside Hospice

Teesside Hospice We’re changing lives across Teesside by supporting people and families with terminal illnesses. We’re bringing people together.

Everybody gets treated as an individual, whether it’s physical, mental or emotional support they need from us. We support people to stay as independent as possible, for as long as possible. From patients, family and friends to our clinical team, counsellors, staff, volunteers and our fundraisers. We make sure that everyone gets to live well until the very end.

Chloe, our Outreach Nurse Practitioner’s ‘Say Yes’ story showcases her care and compassion for people across Teesside facing a terminal illness.

When a patient on our In-Patient Unit was approaching the end of his life, Chloe and him discussed making a memory box for his loved ones to keep and remember him by. The patient shared that he wanted to leave letters for his family, however he was unable to write them due to him being paralysed.

The patient was sad because writing and reading was his life. However, Chloe helped him overcome this and said yes, we can do this!! She stayed back after her shift and together they made the letters, he spoke, and she wrote exactly what he said. The patient was able to leave the letters to his loved ones and he was happy because even though he didn’t write them, they were his words and he left special messages, memories and a part of him in them.

By saying yes, Chloe made a huge difference in helping her patient feel more at peace towards the end of his journey.

Make a donation to Teesside Hospice as a part of our Say Yes appeal today, so people like Chloe can continue to say yes to the things that matter to our patients and families 💜

Dr Deane’s ‘Say Yes’ story brought together our patient Sophia and her husband Stephen by helping them arrange a wedding blessing during her final days with us 💜

Sophia’s husband Stephen shared “I owe the hospice a lot, because this hospice is the reason I get to say that Sophia was my wife. And that means a lot because it wouldn’t have happened without the hospice.

Dr Deane took me into a room, sat me down and said I'm really sorry, but we're at the end of life now. Without going into the details, he said, and now we've got a wedding to arrange. And boy did they do that.

The minister came at 3pm, we got a bouquet of flowers, we got a cake like no other cake with flowers around it, Sophia’s brother got his camera for her wedding photos, and we had garlands on either side of her drip stands. It was a remarkable day.”

Without your support, we wouldn’t be able to say yes to moments like these for our patients and families.

Take part in our summer campaign 'Say Yes' and make a donation today to help us 'say yes' to more patients and families across Teesside this summer, so our nurses can continue to do the amazing work they do every day.

How will you help us to 'Say Yes' this summer? 💜

At Teesside Hospice, our mission is to help families make the most of everyday, creating lasting memories and experiences. That’s why we say ‘yes’ to bringing your pets into the hospice, ‘yes’ to rallying up classic cars to reminisce on your favourite hobby, ‘yes’ to fulfilling your last wish and so much more...

But in order to continue saying ‘yes’ to the families of Teesside, we need your help. It currently costs £6.75 million annually to run our services, that’s almost £18,500 every 24 hours.

Every donation we receive helps us 'Say Yes' to making memories with our patients so our nurses can go the extra mile. Did you know:

💜£10 could provide a memory box to cherish special moments with their loved ones forever.
💆‍♀️£20 can offer a soothing therapy session to a patient or carer, easing stress and pain, or provide a heat pad to patients.
🤝£50 can fund a bereavement counselling session, offering vital support to a grieving child, teenager, or adult navigating loss.
🧑‍⚕️£100 can provide 4 hours of expert nursing care, ensuring dignity, comfort, and personal support for our patients in our10-bed Inpatient Unit (IPU).

Join us in our summer appeal and make a donation today, helping us say yes to more patients and families across Teesside this summer, so our nurses can continue to do the amazing work they do every day.

Last year, our hospice ‘said yes’ to Jeremy and Janet — a couple who had shared 23 wonderful years together, and were facing one of life’s most difficult journeys. Janet recently sat down with us to reflect on the care they received, and why she now chooses to ‘say yes’ to Teesside Hospice in return.

“I feel part of a very special family at the hospice, once that we hope we never need. None of us want to need that, but if you do need it, it is the most precious thing in the world. It gave us our two weeks of living in a bubble of loveliness, that I will carry with me forever.”

Because of supporters like you, we were able to say ‘yes’ to Jeremy and Janet when it mattered most. Their story is just one of many moments made possible by the kindness of our community.

Will you help us ‘say yes’ to more families across Teesside?

Donate today, and help create more bubbles of loveliness when they’re needed the most 💜
