Teesside Hospice

Teesside Hospice We’re changing lives across Teesside by supporting people and families with terminal illnesses. We’re bringing people together.

Everybody gets treated as an individual, whether it’s physical, mental or emotional support they need from us. We support people to stay as independent as possible, for as long as possible. From patients, family and friends to our clinical team, counsellors, staff, volunteers and our fundraisers. We make sure that everyone gets to live well until the very end.

One month to go! Here’s a throwback to last year's Midnight Walk ✨ Have a look through the photos from our fantastic walk last year - can you spot yourself?

We managed to raise an incredible £70,200 last year and we’re so grateful 💜 We need you all once again this year to try and raise as much as possible for your local hospice!

It’s not too late to sign up for this year’s event - You’ll get to walk along Redcar’s beautiful coastline in memory of your loved ones, it’s definitely not an event to miss! There’ll also be entertainment, hot food and drinks available. Not only that, you will receive a finisher’s medal upon completion to commemorate your night, although we think your memories will be more than enough ☺️

Happy Valentine's Day from Teesside Hospice 💜

Alison is marking Valentine’s Day in the most incredible way, by taking on a tandem skydive in memory of her late husband Ade and fundraising for Teesside Hospice, having already raised over £1,000!

"Ade sadly died due to Glioblastoma brain tumour after a brave fight over 21 months. Our lives were turned upside down when the diagnosis was given, which was an incidental finding after he had a collapse. Ade was only 55 and had been fit and active.

Ade remained dignified to the very end, and gave the staff at the hospice something to remember with his cheeky ways. When I told him that I planned to raise some money for the hospice by doing a sky dive. His response was "you're mad, just volunteer". For some reason it seemed to be the right thing to do, so it is booked.

I will forever be indebted to the wonderful staff and facilities at Teesside Hospice. The care Ade and I received was outstanding, always with dignity and respect."

We'd like to wish a huge good luck and thank you to Alison for taking on such an amazing challenge to mark Valentine's in memory of Ade 💜

If you’d like to take on a skydive in memory of a loved one or to support Teesside Hospice, check out the upcoming dates today!

Like many people, when our patient Donna thought of the word hospice, she thought of dying. But at Teesside Hospice, we’re so much more than that, as Donna shares after staying on our In-Patient Unit:

“Coming to the hospice has helped me get back to my normal self again.

I know I’m really poorly, but I’ve come on leaps and bounds, it’s the best thing I could have done for myself.

I can do little bits like tidying around my room, making a coffee, asking for cake and custard - I can have what I want, when I want, to make me feel comfortable. Nothing is a problem at all.

Coming here has brought a bit of me back. When people say the word hospice I just thought of dying, but it’s so much more than that, it’s a really nice little place. Knowing that someone is always there, and being able to get my pain under control has given me so much confidence.” 💜

This National Apprenticeship Week, we’re celebrating the amazing apprentices we have working across our hospice!

We have 7 members of staff across the hospice currently working on their apprenticeships, gaining valuable skills and knowledge while supporting our operations with their hard work. This includes Supporter Care and Database Manager Emilie, who is working towards a Data Analyst qualification and said: "I enjoy doing the apprenticeship because it's giving me a whole new arsenal of skills that enable me to analyse our data in new ways. The skills I'm gaining from the apprenticeship are invaluable."

We're also proud to have recently welcomed new members to our team as part of the Trailblazer programme, which supports young people in gaining career experience in areas including marketing and fundraising.

Great work everyone! 🌟

“I feel confident in looking after my legs and am grateful for the support and advice. I know if I have any questions or worries, the staff will be there to help me. Everyone we’ve dealt with has been amazing, I can’t praise them enough.”

As a patient of our Lymphoedema Clinic, Kevin has been given guidance and advice for managing his condition – and has seen great results. Since being referred to our team and following the regime set, he’s found reduced swelling, no tightness and heaviness in his legs, and softer skin.

Kevin says this support has given him and his wife the confidence to manage his lymphoedema successfully, which is always our goal. We’re so pleased to have helped you, Kevin. 💜

Light up the night and walk 11km in memory of your loved ones ✨

With just over one month to go, here is everything you need to know about our Midnight Walk this year!

When
Saturday 14th March 2026, registrations open at 8pm, please arrive no later than 9:30pm to ensure you are registered on time. Our Teesside Hospice staff and volunteers will be there to sign you in. Here, you’ll be able to register, collect your T-Shirt and flashing head boppers, drop off any sponsorship money and enjoy our tuckshop and entertainment while getting hyped up for your walk!

Where
Our planned route will take us on the beautiful coastal front of Redcar to Marske and back - we politely ask that participants follow marshall instructions at all times and stay in designated walking areas.

Staying comfy
We’ll be walking on the seafront so WRAP UP WARM! Make sure you wear comfy footwear as the terrain may be uneven and will save your feet in the long-run. Fancy dress is also absolutely allowed but please bear in mind that we will be walking for around 2 hours so it is important to be prepared!

Staying safe
We advise you bring water bottles with you to stay hydrated. Please wear our reflective Midnight Walk shirts and use torches provided - even better if you could bring headlamps from home so that you don’t have to worry about carrying too much. Speaking of carrying, please keep a mobile phone on you at all times, and stay with a walking buddy or in a group so that we can all stay together and enjoy the walk safely.

Anything we didn’t cover? Leave us a comment below and we will answer any questions you have!

Sign up now! Tickets just £15 💜

This week, we’re shining a light on Lewis, a dedicated supporter from AV Dawson whose kindness has made a huge impact here at Teesside Hospice 💜

"After the first occasion of being there, it blew me away how a little thing we did brought so much happiness back, watching the patients looking out their window at the lights, and it really touched me and pulled on my heartstrings. It made me want to give, and give, and give, and I’ve passed that onto other people too."

From transforming the garden and exterior of a house donated to the hospice, to inspiring his colleagues to get involved, Lewis has become a true champion for our charity.

“The team sees the happiness that we bring to people at the hospice, and we’re always happy to help because of that reason. There’s always a smiling face there!”

Lewis, thank you for your time, passion and hard work to support our hospice and all that we do ⭐
