The Posture Crisis of Our Time

A silent transformation is unfolding before our eyes — the rise of hyperkyphosis driven by excessive screen use. What was once an age-related deformity is now reshaping the posture of teenagers and young adults, their spines bending under the weight of digital dependence.

Prolonged hours hunched over devices are not just changing how we look, but how our bodies function — leading to chronic pain, restricted breathing, nerve impingement, and lasting spinal damage.

This isn’t just a cosmetic issue; it’s a growing health crisis born from our modern habits. The future of a generation is quite literally bending forward.

Today is World Mental Health Day and I would love to take a moment to remind everyone that your perfect is not needed here.

It’s in the breaks of this life that we grow into our true selves and every time you share that with another, you are spreading not just hope but power.

Do not fall for the hype my friends, you are not on this planet to plod perfectly every day.

You are here to feel. And you are here to love. And you are here to grow. And you should very much feel broken sometimes, if you are doing all of those things.

Love to you all.

We do good work here and you are very much a part of that web of sharing.

This past week, our practices have invited us to gently open into the body as we transition through late summer to autumn, stimulating gut health too.

Our breath enquiry and meditation completed with this poem - selected for its link to the practice.

Yet today, c.800years after the poem was written, the words seems ever more relevant.
