Heat Health Alert issued for the North East

⚠️ A yellow heat health alert is currently in place across the North East from 10:00 on 26 May until 17:00 on 28 May 2026. ⚠️

This level of alert indicates that minor impacts are possible, particularly for vulnerable groups such as older people, those with existing health conditions, and young children.
You may see:
🏥 Increased demand on health and social care services
❤️ Greater risks to the health and wellbeing of vulnerable people
🏠 Indoor environments becoming uncomfortably warm, especially in homes and care settings
🌊 A rise in water-related incidents, including cold-water shock and drowning

It’s important to take simple steps to stay safe during warmer weather, such as staying hydrated, keeping living spaces cool, and checking in on those who may be more at risk.
Further details and live updates on all weather health alerts can be found via the UKHSA dashboard.

Still using a blue inhaler?
What if you could feel better for longer? Your blue inhaler helps you breathe easier but only for about 4 hours!

Combination inhalers start working just as fast but last up to 12 hours and help keep your Asthma under better control.

Don’t wait, book an Asthma review with your GP practice and find out your options.

We’ve listened to people across County Durham and Tees Valley.

The message is clear. People don’t want lots of services, they want one that works, and someone who stays.

Our new report brings together real experiences of mental health support, what helps, what doesn’t, and what needs to change.

Key message to keep consistent. Across all areas, people told us:
▪️ They need someone who stays involved
▪️ Follow‑up and communication really matter
▪️ Crisis and discharge are where people feel most vulnerable
▪️ Community support makes a huge difference

'Joe recently celebrated his graduation from Teesside University, with a Distinction in a Master of Public Health.

The course provided valuable insight into current public health issues, including the impact of health inequalities and wider determinants of health on communities.

Joe is looking forward to continuing to broaden his knowledge and using what he has learned to support the work being carried out.

Congratulations Joe 🎉
