This weekend let’s explore defence mechanisms 🌈
Why is it important to learn about defence mechanisms?
Because they are often a core part of our self protections and can sometimes be causing more harm than good! Learning about them helps us explore and understand why we do it, how it can positively or negatively affect us and how we can improve it in our every day lives!
We will explore 8 key mechanisms and what they all mean and why!
Super excited see you all 5pm-8pm! 🎉

So just a little reminder for everyone who got involved in adverse childhood experiences last night.
Remember that regardless of our childhood, we have built resilience,
Remember that regardless of our childhood, you’re now protect protecting your inner child by bringing them to group,
Remember that regardless of your childhood, you are sharing your stories which is helping other people and yourself ,
Remember that regardless of your childhood, you still show up for yourself every day presently now,
Remember that regardless of your childhood , regardless of whether you still have coping mechanisms from your childhood, your body has still looked after you and brought you to the stair and I’m so proud of every single one of you.
Well done for choosing yourself
Well done for being brave enough to speak up
Well done for being able to create a safe space for others when maybe that wasn’t an option for you.

Seriously guys I’m immensely proud of lastnight ❤️

Seems though we’re not having group today
What number are you feeling on a scale of 1-10 today? 1 being not great at all and 10 people your feeling amazing !

OR can you comment below one feeling your feeling today?
* emotional wheel below for reference *

OR can you give me one good or one bad about your week this week?

Il go first !
I’m feeling around a 7/10 today 👏
My missing 3 is my leg hurting but also feeling snappy today like my anger is getting the best of me ! Probably linking to my silly leg!

My emotional I pick today is Deflated 👎
I feel quite warn out and unmotivated today ! Probably because I gave it my all yesterday to sit and watch Russell Howard 😂😭

1 good of the week: I got to see Russell Howard and iv been doing more on my social media in preparation to start podcasting again! This has made me feel motivated and inspired.

1 bad of the week: My leg got so bad it woke me up at 4am and I couldn’t turn over. This was really scary for me ! I had a cry , some medication and a cuddle and it eventually wore off ! But it did scare me and give me a little trigger from my last pain!

I hope that we can be more engaging on social media for the times I can’t get up and support people!
And if everyone likes this energy we can do this through the week to catch up with people!

Anyone else hate when they have to take a day off?
Me too!
I’ve been running group for over five years, possibly even six now and it’s very rare that I have time off !
I especially hate it when it’s for my mental health group because it’s not just a normal job it’s something that people rely on me for weekly and I’d like to be able to provide that space so when I can’t, it really gets to me !
Something in me feels like I have to prove my illness, but something in me also wants to just show that I’m human and let you all in on my illness because that’s what it’s all about right? Being real! Being down to earth and keeoim communications clear!
So for anyone interested in my chronic illness he has a little idea of what’s going on and if anyone has any advice or can translate this better than ChatGPT please be welcome to it!
As I start to prepare for my surgery and the hard months of my flareups, please be patient with me as I run group. I’ve done this with all of my soul for as long as I can remember some days are harder than others!
Please also prepare that when I have my surgery, I will be off for approximately one month upwards . I’m planning on doing teams calls or doing something so I can still contact everyone and catch up but yes I just thought I’d let everyone have a little insight into my own personal life as that’s something I don’t mind sharing to make a world a little bit of a better place.
Catch me podcasting too! The journey !
Thank you all for being patient when I have to cancel group. I appreciate you all so much and I can’t wait to see you next week. Thank you for all your lovely comments and being there for me you guys too just as much for me as I do you.💜

THIS WEEKENDS GROUP
Hey everyone this next 9 weeks we are going to shake things up a bit!
I’m going to upload the plans for the next 9 weeks so everyone can pick and choose what they would like to learn about or get involved in!

As many people know who come to group, we do an array of different activities including crafts , mental health and self care.

I did some safeguarding training on children yesterday and it sparked some educational side of myself.

Psychoeducation is a term used by therapists which means that we educate the clients on what different mental health factors mean and how we can improve them and be aware of them. Sometimes just being aware of what a certain behaviour is or what a certain mechanism is can make the world of difference for us.

This is often called insight and we normally get it when we go to therapy! It’s when two parts of a puzzle come together and start to make sense and give you a form of acceptance or realisation which means you can move on from the thing you have learned about.

For a little example: I was talking with a therapist one time about my constant need to get on the defence and tell people to “ not f**k with me” after exploring this it made me realise that I had picked up this pattern of behaviour from one of my parents as I had noticed they had always been protected by the way they spoke ,the way they could protect themselves through words.

When my therapist pointed out that I had picked up on this pattern as a form of protecting myself it made two and two click together and made me realise that having a defence mechanism to make myself seem like somebody not to mess with was actually not a part of who I am personally, but was something I had developed overtime to stay safe.

Knowing this allowed me to accept it and move away from this behaviour and be my true self. The next time I had an argument with a friend instead of trying to get on the defence I just told them I was upset and cried. It was a big deal for me to be able to have this insight for myself and I hope that in the next nine weeks we can spark some insight in different people from group.

More posters incoming with new schedules 💕🌸
