Birth planning - the environment.
Finding out about the place you'll be giving birth is really important.
Whether this is a hospital birth, midwife led unit, or home, where you are and how you feel about it can affect your levels of calm.
Maybe you are planning a home birth and are worried about the potential for hospital transfer - while you can focus on home birth if that's what you plan, I'd also say find out about what happens if you do need to transfer to hospital; how will this happen, what can you do to keep yourself calm?
Finding out about the hospital or birthing centre in terms of what it looks like, what equipment they have, and what is likely to happen, can help.
Hypnobirthing is portable, so it doesn't matter where you are - you can still use it.
Your birth environment is important - if you are not comfortable and don't feel safe, it can raise the stress and adrenaline.
So, plan how to make the birth environment work for you, no matter where that is.
If you are going to a hospital or birthing centre, what can you take in to make it familiar ? Comfort items from home maybe.
Home birth - thinking about what you can do to make your birth space feel safe, calm, relaxed. Keeping out unwanted distractions.
Soothe the senses - think about ways to make the room calmer - dim lighting, a calm playlist, comforting smells.
What will make you feel safe, supported?
What in the birth environment may be scary or uncomfortable to you? Think ahead and talk through the fears.
We cover this in more detail in the birth prep courses but this is something for you to think about.
