I’ve got a sore hand!!! So no downward dogs today, and I’ve tried to stay away from putting weight into my hands.

This posture is my alternative inversion to downward dog - it’s a powerful shoulder-strengthening pose that builds stability while lengthening the spine and hamstrings. Pressing the forearms down, lifting the hips high, and letting the neck stay soft. Strong, steady, and energising.

I weave yoga philosophy into my classes not as something heavy or academic, but as a quiet thread that runs alongside the movement and the breath.

Yoga isn’t only about shapes on a mat — it’s about how we meet ourselves in each moment. A word like vairagya (letting go), or an idea like maya (illusion), can gently shift the way a pose feels, turning it from “doing” into “noticing.”

In class, philosophy becomes practical:
a softer jaw in effort,
a kinder inner voice in balance,
a reminder that we are more than our flexibility or our to-do lists.

The intention is never to preach, but to offer small seeds of reflection — so that when students leave, they carry not just stretched muscles, but a steadier mind and a little more compassion for themselves.

Nothing beats a wintry walk on the beach with the waves and the sun descending.

Gentle movement, clears the mind, fills the heart, and soothes the soul.

I’ve definitely changed. I used to be desperate to get the decorations down on New Year’s Day, eager to start crazy new punishing routines of exercise and diets, a big rebound from overindulgence at Christmas time.

Practicing a compassionate mindset, focusing on the present and the natural flow of the season has taught me not to rush, to indulge in deep rest and to understand that balance will gradually come back over the coming weeks.

Yes, I’ve put on a few extra pounds, though I haven’t eaten to excess and I’ve done very little exercise over the last fortnight.

Because this time of year is all about hibernation, slow living and rest. Nature gives us the best life lessons. And with the Wolf Supermoon today, we can release and let go of what doesn’t serve us. One of the things I choose to release myself from is the pressure to conform to socially constructed values of the calendar new year, and choose to listen to the rhythm of the season instead.

So I’ll be taking in the joy of my decorations for a few more days. Easing myself into movement and gradually lean into the nourishing seasonal foods that support me this time of year - soups, stews, warming drinks, winter veg.

I’ve resisted posting this as it’s so exposing but it is a subject that matters to me, so here we go!….

Firstly - we are so much more than our physical body. But….

Grey hairs, wrinkles, laughter lines, surgical scars, crepey skin from carrying babies, stretch marks, broken veins, thread veins, dimpled orange peel legs and bum, gravity doing its thing with my skin - it’s all there in all its ageing glory. I’ve got the lot!

Let’s normalise ageing and celebrate our body imperfections.

It’s my body’s 50 year old story.

I’m not striving to look like an athlete, or to look younger, or to erase the years I’ve racked up.

I want to simply feel ease with my body, celebrate movement and my body with its perfect imperfections.

AND….

I do absolutely take care of my body as it carries me through the rest of my life. I mean, we’ve only got the one body, it’s got to carry us through the whole journey of life.

Movement, rest, good nutrition & reducing toxic load are all at the centre of my life. Embracing yoga philosophy to help guide me in all these good lifestyle and positive mind habits.

One of the reasons I came back on social media was that I no longer wanted to stay silent about what it’s like to live with a lifelong condition, how it can impact on daily life and to raise awareness for sufferers of chronic conditions. But also to talk a bit at a time about how yoga has helped me.

This isn’t just my story. But a post to highlight the invisible sufferers, whatever it might be that is present in your body.

A chronically ill person can often look like the picture of health, life and soul of the party, the one who “has it all” . They might always have a smile on the face and cracking jokes. But in truth, that person might be having a really challenging time behind the scenes.

They might be the one who doesn’t drink booze anymore, who says no to invites and rarely goes out, the one who is quiet at school pick up because they haven’t got the energy to socialise.

I am all of this and more.

How has yoga helped me? Firstly the practice isn’t just the postures, more of that another time, in another post.

But the postures - called Asana - help to build an internal mental strength and resilience, as you learn to hold them and breathe through them.

This is just one of the ways yoga has helped me deal with the daily challenge of the supposedly simple act of eating, and more importantly, when things go wrong, that I can work though it, and pick myself up, knowing that the discomfort is always temporary.

I’m a big musical theatre fan so there was no question of a trip to these Greek Islands to celebrate our 50 journeys around the sun! I really wanted to see where the Mamma Mia film was made and I wasn’t disappointed- the islands were breathtaking. I wasn’t well much of the break which was a shame as it was our first holiday alone in 21 years, so a special one. But I think we will definitely return to explore some more!

I’ve been on a little holiday abroad, which was beautiful, but also I was plagued with health issues.

An idyllic holiday can sometimes be a big setback from someone with a chronic health condition, I’ve had to cancel my schedule since I’ve returned so that I can honour my body with rest.

So for the rest of the weekend I will be hanging with the kittens and a blanket to restore my energy and honour my body with rest, just as I would tell my yoga students to.

You can’t pour from an empty cup.

These little babes have been with us since July and are only 4 months old. They are half siblings, but are chalk and cheese. Luna is really sweet, wants fusses and doesn’t seem to really know what’s going on. Iris is militant and wants to attack everything, demands food and wants to kill my toes at every opportunity. But I adore them both and waking up to these cuties every day is pure joy. 😍

My yoga teaching has an emphasis on exploring how you feel on the inside.

My classes are quite slow, giving you the space to explore sensation, to notice your breath and how your body responds to the postures.

Yoga isn’t about the way a pose should look, but how it feels uniquely for you.

Hi, I’m Caroline! 🧘‍♀️

I’ve haven’t shown up on here for a very long time long time. I’ve been quietly observing this space and getting on with life.

Why have I been away?

I just didn’t feel like sharing myself. For a long time I didn’t have the energy or motivation to do so.

But something has shifted and I feel ready to return and share in a way I haven’t before.

Watch this space for yoga insights, healthy living tips and how I’m navigating mid life with adult and teen kids, many pets 🐶 🐱 and a chronic health condition with passion and positivity!
