At Merritt’s, we understand that wearing black at a funeral isn’t always what a family feels is right. Every life is unique, and we believe the way we say goodbye should reflect that. We are always happy to gently adapt our traditions to honour the wishes, personality and story of the person we are remembering.
For this particular gentleman, whose life was shaped by Land Rovers, farming, and the land surrounding our town, black simply didn’t feel like him. So Toby led the way in his navy blue attire with a pheasant tie — a quiet, respectful nod to a life spent outdoors and connected to the countryside. It felt far more fitting and personal.
As a funeral director, it is incredibly important to me that families feel comfortable exploring different options. Whether that means a change in attire, incorporating meaningful colours, or adding small personal touches, I am always here to listen and to help create something that truly reflects the person you love. Tradition has its place, but personal tribute will always matter most.
Our family caring for yours 💙
