We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Mr. Gerard Ryan and Mrs. Sheila Ryan, a highly regarded couple from Midhurst, who sadly passed away within days of one another.

Their presence within the community was greatly valued, and their love and devotion to each other will be fondly remembered. We extend our sincere condolences to their family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing them at this difficult time.

A funeral service will be held for both Sheila & Gerard Ryan at Chichester Cathedral on Saturday 16th August 2025 at 10am.

We’re incredibly proud to be sponsoring the upcoming memorial football match in honour of three much-loved local legends – Tim Dummer, Andrew Claydon, and Stuart Groves. 💙⚽

These were men who brought laughter, energy, and heart into the lives of everyone around them. Whether it was on the pitch, in the pub, or out in the community, they each left behind memories that still make people smile (and maybe roll their eyes a little, too).

This match isn’t just about football – it’s about coming together as a community to remember, to laugh, to share stories, and to celebrate the kind of mates who stick with you long after they’re gone. We’re sure there’ll be some questionable football, a few heroic attempts at goals, and definitely more than one pulled muscle – just the way the lads would’ve wanted it.

We’re honoured to play a small part in such a meaningful day. Events like this show the true heart of our community – supporting each other, remembering those we’ve lost, and making sure their spirit lives on.

At Merritt’s of Midhurst, we are honoured to help families say farewell in ways that are deeply personal.

Recently, we were asked to arrange the scattering of ashes at sea for a much-loved gentleman who had spent his life on the water. It was a peaceful and heartfelt moment, carried out just as he wished - surrounded by the waves and breeze he knew so well.

As we released his ashes where he wanted to be, we shared a touching poem and played “Sailing By” - a fitting tribute to a gentle soul who found his peace in the rhythm of the sea.

It was a privilege to help his loved ones honour his memory in such a meaningful way.

May he rest in peace

We had a very special little visitor at Merritt’s of Midhurst today - baby Charlie! 💙

At just 3 months old, he’s already keeping a close eye on things… with a little help from his dad, Toby, our Managing Director. Charlie is the 6th generation of the Merritt family, which makes his visit all the more special.

It’s lovely to see the next generation already becoming part of the family story here at Merritt’s. 💫

On Tuesday, we had the honour of accompanying a much-loved gentleman to Clayton Wood Natural Burial Ground for a peaceful service, followed by a private interment at a local cemetery.
