🌸 Happy International Women’s Day! 🌸
Today we’re celebrating the incredible women who make our team what it is , strong, compassionate, resilient and endlessly inspiring. We are so lucky to work alongside such amazing women every day, and we’re grateful for the care, dedication and warmth they bring to our residents and their families.
But today we’d also like to give a very special shout out to one woman who quite literally keeps the ship sailing, our wonderful General Manager, Rhona Sievewright.
Rhona’s commitment to our residents and their families is nothing short of exceptional. Much of what she does happens quietly behind the scenes , long after most people have closed their laptops and called it a day. If there’s a way to make life better for our residents, you can guarantee Rhona is already working on it ! Truth be told, caring for others seems to be written into Rhona’s DNA. As the only girl in a family of many brothers, she naturally stepped into the role of organiser, peacekeeper and chief “looking-after-everyone.” Later, as a military wife, she travelled the world supporting other military families while raising her own , a role that requires equal parts compassion, resilience and the ability to organise chaos with military precision!
Her professional journey into the care sector began working with young children, then with young people with complex learning difficulties. From there she expanded her knowledge and qualifications into senior and dementia care and it’s fair to say that if Rhona doesn’t know the answer to a dementia care question, it probably isn’t worth knowing!
One of the things we admire most about Rhona is that she never asks anyone to do something she wouldn’t do herself. She leads from the front , whether that’s supporting with complex personal care, making someone a cup of tea, or simply sitting and holding a resident’s hand when they need comfort the most.
And just when you think you’ve got Rhona figured out, she surprises you because outside of work she can do the splits, fire-eat, and dance burlesque style , all in the name of maintaining a healthy work-life balance! Not to mention her impressive shoe collection, which could easily rival anything in Imelda Marcos’ wardrobe and is arguably more art gallery than footwear storage.
Rhona, thank you for everything you do , for your leadership, your compassion, your energy and your sense of humour. We are incredibly lucky to have you at the helm.
Happy International Women’s Day, Rhona , long may you continue to steer the ship at Somer Valley House!
