We’re delighted to welcome you to our Coffee Morning on Wednesday 6th May and everyone is warmly invited!

Somer Valley House is proudly joining forces with Dementia UK for their wonderful “Time for a Cuppa” campaign. Together, we’ll be raising awareness, sparking meaningful conversations about dementia, and hopefully collecting donations for this incredibly important cause 💙

Our talented chefs will be preparing their signature, mouth-watering sweet treats 🍰 which is the perfect excuse to indulge while supporting something truly worthwhile!

So gather your Mum, Dad, friends, and neighbours and come along for a relaxed, friendly morning filled with great company, delicious bakes, and a shared sense of community, the more , the merrier!

There have been birthdays galore recently at Somer Valley House, and each one is a truly special occasion, celebrated with loved ones, our wonderful team, and fellow residents.

This particularly lovely photo captures the fabulous Carmel, who recently marked the incredible milestone of turning 88 years young! Our talented chefs created a beautiful birthday cake in her honour, and she was surrounded by family who helped make her day perfect in every way.

Did you know that Carmel was once a champion Irish dancer? What an amazing claim to fame!

Some of our residents enjoyed a delightful, impromptu lunch and coffee outing today at Woodford Lodge, nestled beside the beautiful Chew Valley Lake. Surrounded by stunning views and tranquil scenery, they savoured refreshing drinks and hearty food while making the most of the sunshine.

The peaceful setting provided the perfect backdrop for conversation and connection, with friendships blossoming as residents shared stories and laughter. One particularly special moment came when Donald proudly told the group about his brother’s involvement in clearing Moreton to make way for the lake adding a meaningful, personal touch to the day.

While all of our outings are treasured, today’s combination of warm sunshine, wonderful company, and breathtaking surroundings made it especially memorable, with many residents wishing they could have stayed just a little longer.

Our sincere thanks go to The Woodford Lodge - Lakeside Food for their exceptional hospitality, swiftly arranging a table with arguably the best view, providing attentive table service, and creating such a welcoming, friendly, and accommodating atmosphere for our residents to enjoy.

We will definitely be back to visit again soon !

When all you wish for on your 97th birthday is to be surrounded by your nearest and dearest… you can count on us to make it happen! 💛

Here at Somer Valley House, we got the memo and our incredible team came together to create something truly magical. From laughter filled moments to a beautifully prepared celebration, it was a day to remember.

A huge thank you to our amazing kitchen team for the delicious spread and to Jean’s wonderful family and friends for joining us and making her day so special and full of love.

We’re delighted to share an exciting new collaboration between Somer Valley House and Dragonfly Leisure, a much loved and long standing community sports centre in Midsomer Norton.

Our residents already look forward to their daily armchair exercise sessions, and this partnership allows us to take those activities to the next level. With the support and guidance of Dragonfly Leisure’s professionally trained experts, we can ensure our residents are gaining the very best benefits for their health and wellbeing.

Staying active plays a vital role in improving cardiovascular health, reducing the risk of illnesses such as type 2 diabetes, and helping to prevent strokes. Just as importantly, regular exercise has a profoundly positive impact on mental health and overall wellbeing something we are deeply committed to supporting.

Today, Emma presented the Dragonfly Leisure team with a basket of goodies as a small token of our appreciation, not only for their support with our residents, but also for the invaluable service they provide to the wider local community.

We’re incredibly grateful for this partnership and look forward to all the positive outcomes it will bring.

Despite a slight chill in the air today, the welcome appearance of sunshine set the perfect scene for another wonderful gardening session. Our residents embraced the moment, enthusiastically planting more flowers and greenery as they continue working toward creating the most vibrant, blooming garden in the area for everyone to enjoy throughout the summer months.

There’s a real sense of excitement as we look ahead to watching all their hard work come to life in the weeks to come. Of course, no gardening session is complete without a well earned cup of tea in the fresh air accompanied by plenty of cheerful conversation and shared ideas for what next week’s gardening plans might bring.

Emma, our Customer Relationship Manager, had the pleasure of visiting another local GP surgery last week when she visited Somerton House Surgery, part of the Somer Valley Medical Group, where she was met with a very warm and friendly welcome from their receptionist.

They were extremely appreciative of our small token of sweet treats, which we were delighted to offer as a gesture of thanks for the invaluable work they continue to do within the local community.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude for their ongoing dedication and commitment, thank you for all that you do.

Today, our wonderful residents spent time enjoying a relaxing flower arranging session, and the results were simply beautiful. From vibrant colours to delicate scents, each arrangement reflected creativity, care, and a personal touch.

More than just creating lovely displays, moments like these bring joy, spark conversation, and offer a peaceful space to unwind together. It was heartwarming to see everyone sharing stories, laughter, and a sense of pride in their creations.

What an absolutely beautiful, sunshiny day we’ve enjoyed today! ☀️

There’s no better way to make the most of such lovely weather than stepping out, soaking up the sunshine, and treating ourselves to a toasted teacake and a luxurious coffee while sitting outside a local café.

That’s exactly what some of our residents did, accompanied by our wonderful Lifestyle Assistant, Jeanette. Together, they took a trip into Midsomer Norton, where they not only enjoyed the fresh air and warm atmosphere but also picked up a beautiful assortment of flowers for our weekly flower arranging activity. 🌸

A perfect day filled with smiles, sunshine, and simple pleasures!

We are delighted to introduce our wonderful resident, Joy and she truly lives up to her name.

A passionate and talented organist, Joy brought her beloved instrument with her when she moved into Somer Valley House. Since then, it has been an absolute pleasure for both residents and staff to enjoy the beautiful music she so generously shares.

Today, Joy was playing some of her favourite tunes with such warmth and skill. The room was filled with smiles, memories, and music that brought us all together.

Thank you, Joy, for such a lovely and uplifting performance , we enjoyed every single note.
