To my adored treasured granda Walter Lewis the chief of our tribe….honouring his incredible life and his peaceful passing yesterday 🤍 - near 98 years - he is part of the very fabric of my being & has imprinted all his love, guidance, wisdom and incredible resilience into every cell. 🤍
My granda was a legend, a giant of a man, an inspiration, a true gentleman, a musician, an entertainer, a storyteller, a joker but all in all he was a family man who loved nothing more than being surrounded by his loved ones and his community. 🤍
Born in 1927 into humble beginnings in rural north of Ireland - a land so far from today’s world it is hard to believe. A musician from early on, teaching himself the fiddle, the saxophone and the clarinet, he then went onto form and be the front man of the “Walter Lewis Show band” famed far and wide bringing joy to many a dance hall across Ireland and England. His music was his love, his saviour, his joy, he once told me that his fiddle was his best friend and he never got lonely because of his fiddle. He was described as “A symbol of Ireland’s living musical heritage”
He used to tell me stories from the “olden days” these stories have shaped me in more ways than he will ever know.
A father to 6, a granda of 12 & a great granda to 5 - as much as the tears are flowing and the loss is so deeply felt, it is time for his next adventure, he has been the strong stable loving centre of our universe for so long, it’s now time for him to return home.
Time to go deep into the tribe to grieve, to process & celebrate Walter Lewis, my granda the legend & his incredible life 💜
