👂Earwax build up and Running👂
Well done to everyone that done the MK Marathon this weekend 👏🏻
Have you noticed since training and doing the marathon your ears have started to feel blocked?
While running a lot may not directly cause earwax buildup, it can sometimes contribute to it or exacerbate existing issues. Running can lead to sweating, and the same glands that produce sweat also contribute to earwax production. Additionally, frequent or vigorous exercise might increase stress levels, which can also influence earwax production.
Sweat and Earwax Production:
The sebaceous glands in the ear canal produce earwax (cerumen) along with sweat. Increased sweat from running may lead to a higher volume of earwax produced.
Stress and Earwax:
Exercise can be a stressor for the body. Stress can trigger the release of hormones like cortisol, which can influence sebaceous gland activity, potentially leading to more earwax.
Impacted Earwax:
If you regularly run in environments with dust or debris, or if you use earplugs or headphones, the earwax may get compacted or impacted, making it harder for it to naturally exit the ear canal.
If you have noticed any change to your ears you can book an ear health check or earwax removal.
