While Josh rocked their newborn son at home, his wife was recovering alone in hospital after developing a surgical site infection (SSI).

That first laugh. That first cuddle at home. She missed those precious moments.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of patients in the UK deliver their babies by Caesarean section [2]. Every one of them is at risk of developing an SSI, and that could lead to extended hospital stays.

What’s the most heartbreaking part of it all? A simple glove change could make a real difference.

Reducing SSIs through glove change improves patient outcomes and contributes to more sustainable maternity care [3].

Discover how changing gloves can reduce post-Caesarean section SSIs by up to 59%†, [1]: https://lnkd.in/eUQZp_Hg

She should have been at home, listening to her baby’s first gurgles. Instead, she was battling an infection that could have been prevented.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of patients in the UK deliver their babies by Caesarean section [2], and every one of them is at risk of developing a surgical site infection (SSI). Those who do may face longer hospital stays, painful recoveries, readmissions – and ultimately, missed moments with their loved ones.

What’s most surprising? One small change in surgical practice – simply changing gloves – can make a big difference.

Glove change during Caesarean section can reduce SSIs by up to 59%†, [1], making it a small step that can lead to better patient recovery and reduced strain on healthcare budgets [3].

Josh’s wife should be at home, cuddling her newborn - not battling an infection.

Surgical site infections (SSIs) are a common and serious complication following Caesarean section, yet many are preventable.

A simple glove change before final closure has been shown to lower SSIs by up to 59%†,1 and reduce the need for costly follow-up care2,3.

Are traditional post-op dressings still the right choice - when they're linked to 9.8% complication rates?

A recent randomised controlled trial compared four dressing types in hip and knee surgeries:
✅ Mepilex® Border Post-Op
✅ Aquacel® Ag
✅ Opsite® Post-Op
✅ Traditional Dressings

Key Findings:
1️⃣ Pain scores were significantly lower with Mepilex Border Post-Op (Day 3 p=0.002)
2️⃣ Surgical Site Complications dropped to 1.2% vs 9.8% with traditional dressings (p=0.003)
3️⃣ Patients reported the highest comfort and mobility scores

➡ How often do you review the evidence behind the dressings you use?
➡ What factors influence your choice - cost, habit, or patient outcomes?

Let's start a conversation. 👇
