Blessed Lammas, 🌾🌾
celebrated on August 1st, is a deeply spiritual festival marking the beginning of the harvest season. Its name comes from the Old English hlaf-mas, meaning "loaf mass," reflecting the ancient tradition of offering the first loaf of bread made from the new grain to spirit or deity in gratitude.
Spiritually, Lammas is a time of:
🌾 Gratitude and Sacrifice
It's a sacred pause to honor the Earth’s abundance and the sacrifices, both literal and symbolic, that make life possible. Spiritually, it reminds us that every harvest requires letting go: the grain must die for the bread to rise, just as we must release old versions of ourselves to grow.
🔥 Transformation
Lammas sits between summer solstice and autumn equinox a threshold of change. It's a potent time to reflect on the seeds you planted earlier in the year (goals, dreams, intentions), what is now coming to fruition, and what may need to be released to make space for deeper transformation.
🌀 Communion with the Earth
It reconnects us with the cycles of nature, and by extension, the cycles within ourselves. As the days subtly shorten, Lammas invites us to begin turning inward, to attune to inner rhythms, and to prepare spiritually for the descent into the darker half of the year.
🌻 A Ritual Invitation
You might honor Lammas by baking bread with intention, lighting a candle to give thanks, writing what you’re harvesting in your life, or offering something back to the Earth. It’s about acknowledging that you are both a creator and a part of the created.
Here is a Lammas blessing you can speak, write in your journal, or offer aloud during a simple ritual:
---
Lammas Blessing
Blessed be the golden grain,
The fruit of sun and rain.
With grateful heart, I give my praise
For all I've grown through summer days.
As fields are kissed by harvest light,
I honor growth, both day and night.
What’s come to bloom, what must now cease,
I gather now in joy and peace.
May I share with open hand,
The gifts I’ve reaped from this rich land.
And as the wheel turns once again,
May love and purpose ever remain.
Big love Rae ✨️
