🌞 Hot Weather Alert: Important Precautions for Carers and Service Users 🌞

As temperatures rise this week, we want to remind everyone how important it is to stay safe and comfortable in the heat — especially for those who are vulnerable, older, or living with health conditions.

Whether you’re a carer out visiting homes or a service user staying indoors, please take a few moments to follow these essential hot weather precautions:

💧 Stay Hydrated
• Drink water regularly throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
• Avoid too much caffeine or alcohol.

🌬️ Keep Cool
• Keep curtains or blinds closed during the hottest part of the day.
• Use fans or open windows for ventilation (but be mindful of safety and security).
• Wear loose, lightweight clothing.

⏰ Check In Often
• Carers: please check that service users are comfortable, hydrated, and dressed appropriately.
• Families: if your loved one lives alone, try to check in more frequently during this heat.

🍽️ Light Meals Are Best
• Eat smaller, cooler meals to help avoid overheating.

🩺 Watch for Signs of Heat Exhaustion
• Symptoms include dizziness, headache, excessive sweating, nausea, or confusion.
• If you notice any of these, act quickly: cool down, hydrate, and seek help if needed.

💜 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day – June 15th 💜

Today, we stand together to raise our voices against the abuse, neglect, and mistreatment of older people — something that happens far too often, and far too quietly.

At Mayfair Homecare, we believe that every older person deserves to live with dignity, safety, and respect — in their own home, their own way.

🛑 Elder abuse can be physical, emotional, financial, or even neglect.
💬 It can happen anywhere — and to anyone.
👥 That’s why it’s up to all of us — carers, families, communities — to speak up, look out, and take action.

If you suspect elder abuse, report it. If you support an older loved one, check in and ask how they’re really doing.
