Struggling with procrastination, lack of focus, or motivation?
I want to share something a little personal today.
Like many people, I’ve had moments where I know exactly what I want or need to do… and yet I find myself doing anything else instead. My favourite distraction is watching YouTube videos of cats 🐈⬛ because they’re just so cute.
For a long time, procrastination was framed as laziness or lack of discipline. What I’ve come to understand — both personally and through my work — is that it’s much more often a nervous system response. A learned pattern in the brain that’s trying to protect us when something feels overwhelming, uncomfortable, or loaded in some way.
I’ve written a new article exploring procrastination from this kinder, brain-based perspective — and how calming the nervous system and using simple mental rehearsal can make taking action feel easier and more natural again.
