Struggling with procrastination, lack of focus, or motivation?

I want to share something a little personal today.

Like many people, I’ve had moments where I know exactly what I want or need to do… and yet I find myself doing anything else instead. My favourite distraction is watching YouTube videos of cats 🐈‍⬛ because they’re just so cute.

For a long time, procrastination was framed as laziness or lack of discipline. What I’ve come to understand — both personally and through my work — is that it’s much more often a nervous system response. A learned pattern in the brain that’s trying to protect us when something feels overwhelming, uncomfortable, or loaded in some way.

I’ve written a new article exploring procrastination from this kinder, brain-based perspective — and how calming the nervous system and using simple mental rehearsal can make taking action feel easier and more natural again.

Last client of the year decided to stay in the Hypno chair, all relaxed and cosy for Christmas!

Christmas brings families together, lots of fun and laughter and a lot of effort too. I personally love to cook and find it inspiring and joyful to prepare the Christmas fayre! I have been known on several occasions to forget to serve one dish so my eldest son now always reminds me and asks “What have you forgotten to serve this time, Mum?”

Take a moment to remember those who are alone this year, suffering from illness, in difficult relationships or unable to afford the luxuries many take for granted.

A phone call, a smile, a donation to your favourite charity - it all makes a difference to somebody’s day.

My top tips for a Happy Christmas:

🎄Set a positive intention to remain calm, no matter what;
🤶 Don’t sweat the small stuff - and it’s all small stuff;
🎉Listen to your body and pay attention to the messages it’s giving you;
🎄Take a break when you need it;
🤶Drink plenty of water;
🎉Enjoy your food and drink without the need to overindulge;
❤️ Whatever other people say or do - LET THEM (in true Mel Robbins style) and let YOU respond in a way that makes you feel calmly proud of yourself;
🎁 Remember to breathe, in for 4, hold for 2, and out for 6 - repeat 3-6 times to calm your nervous system;
🎉Get some fresh air, have a daily walk - it will help to reduce any build up of stress and keep you balanced;
😻Let go of the need to get everything right or perfect, it’s only one day and your health is more important than a perfect day;
🤶 Remember to take a mindful pause, notice what’s going on around you and inside of you - be the observer of your experience, it can help you to stay emotionally regulated;
🎄A good Christmas is about the way you feel and the way you make other people feel - that’s what memories are made of! As Maya Angelou famously said: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel “.

Dear Santa,

I hope you’re staying cosy up there at the North Pole, I imagine it’s a busy time for you and the elves.

This year, I don’t really need things.
What I’d love is more moments that make life feel good - smiles, kindness, fun and laughter, so people can feel lighter and more at ease.

I’ve been good most of the year.
I’ve worked hard, done my best to get fit and healthy, and tried to help others — even on the days when I didn’t really feel like it. (We don’t need to talk about the days I ate too much chocolate!)

I’ll leave mince pies out for you, a glass of something nice, and a carrot for the reindeer. Tell Rudolph I will be looking out for his shiny nose!

I wish you a very Happy Christmas.

💖 What a lovely way to start the day - I opened an email this morning, from a client I saw yesterday and felt a surge of joy! Both she and her son had a session of BWRT on Zoom and this was the result:

"Hi Mary
Hope you are having an amazing day as I feel AMAZING today
My son slept after yesterday’s session with you by the time I finished my session he was in deep sleep
He got up around 7 pm
He was back to his old self joking about everything I say, I have not seen him like this in years
I appreciate you and the work you do.
