We loved welcoming the children from greatholmpreschool for their bi-weekly visit this week 📚💛

They brought along books kindly sharing with our residents, and with 2026 being the National Year of Reading, we couldn’t think of a better choice than the classic Room on the Broom.

As the story says, “There’s room on the broom for everyone!” 🧙‍♀️🧹

🍫 A Sweet Day of Learning at the Callebaut Academy ☕

Our Head Chef spent the day at the Callebaut Academy today, taking part in an inspiring bean-to-bar experience. The session explored the journey of coffee and cocoa beans, from their origins through to the finished product, with some fascinating tastings along the way 😋

The day also included a guided chocolate tasting, highlighting different origins and how each chocolate can be used in unique ways. There was hands-on work creating chocolate eggs and learning new techniques that can be brought back into our kitchen 🍬

It was a great opportunity to learn, get inspired, and catch up with other Porthaven chefs. We’re excited to start experimenting with new ideas at Elizabeth Gardens, perhaps even some homemade chocolates for future special events 💚

This week marked international chocolate cake day. 😋

Our residents took the challenge of baking some delicious chocolate muffins. From weighing the ingredients, to mixing, to trying the finished product.

Apparently they tasted delicious 🤤 so good we didn’t get a chance to take a picture of the finished product 🙈

The atmosphere was buzzing as Rod Northampton Bagpiper filled our home with incredible music and shared fascinating Scottish history and traditions 🎵 Our residents loved every minute!

And of course, no Burns Night is complete without a feast, haggis, neeps & tatties were thoroughly enjoyed by all 😋👏

Whether going for a walk in the garden, playing a game of chess or enjoying a simple cup of tea, these moments of connection are beneficial for everybody.
