GLOBAL HANDWASHING DAY: Protecting Our Carers and Our Service Users 🫧

October 15th marks Global Handwashing Day, a reminder of the importance of good hygiene and hand washing practices, especially within the care sector.

This is one of the most powerful tools we have to prevent the spread of infections. It protects vulnerable service users, supports staff health, and ensures a safer, cleaner environment.

βœ… Wash hands before and after contact with service users
βœ… Use soap and water, following a proper technique for at least 20 seconds
βœ… If soap and water is not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser

Let’s continue keeping ourselves, colleagues and service users safe. 🧼

Keeping Seniors Active and Engaged at Home: Promoting physical and mental well-being 🚢🧑

As a care provider, we understand the importance of keeping older people active, especially those who are less mobile. Staying active is more than just a lifestyle choice but rather a vital part of maintaining your health.

Remaining physically active is essential for maintaining strength and balance which can help reduce the risk of falls and improve circulation. Physical activity can also improve your mental stimulation which helps maintain cognitive function and can improve your mental well-being.

Even gentle exercises can have a huge impact on your loved ones physical and mental health. To find out more visit: https://carewatch.co.uk/2025/10/10/keeping-seniors-active-and-engaged-at-home/

⭐ Misconceptions In Care: Caregiving is all about personal care ⭐

A common misconception about the care sector is that caregiving only refers to personal care and physical assistance for the elderly.

Our highly skilled carers are trained in providing a wide range of different care services to suit the needs specific to each individual service user. While we do provide personal care, our carers also support those who need help shopping and running errands, mental health challenges, those coming home from hospital and sometimes are just a friendly companion to chat to.

Want to help make a difference and support those in your local community? With vacancies available across Sheffield and shift patterns to work around you, apply now: www.carewatch.co.uk/careers/

World Mental Health Day 🧠

The 10th of October each year marks World Mental Health Day, an international awareness event that recognises the struggles of those suffering with their mental health and the importance of speaking out about your struggles.

We want to take this opportunity to show our care staff the resources we have available. With all the support and care you give to our service users, it's important to look after your own well-being too.

With our employee assistance programme, TELUS Health, you can access a free phoneline and 24/7 live chat as well as a range of podcasts and blog about how to support yourself mentally, physically and financially.

Our Mental Health Lead, Carol Jackson, is also available to talk to if you'd like some extra support. To contact Carol call 07751 828989 or email carol.jackson@dalecare.co.uk.

We are here to support you! 🧑

Cyber Security Awareness Month: Keeping our service users safe online πŸ’» πŸ”’

With technology constantly evolving many of our older service users find it challenging to keep up. To ensure they're safe and accounts are secure online, here are some tips that you can recommend and help them with if needed:

πŸ›‘οΈ Set up two factor authentication for extra security when logging in to different accounts and apps.
πŸ’¬ Help them to spot scam calls and emails, what might be obvious to us isn't always as clear for them.
πŸ“± Update devices regularly.
πŸ”‘ Encourage them to use a range of capital and lower case letters, numbers and special characters to make passwords more secure.
ℹ️ Help them limit what personal information they share online.
❓ Encourage them to ask for help if unsure, whether this be their family or technical support.

With a little help and guidance we can ensure our service users and loved ones safety online.

⭐ Misconceptions In Care: Can only women be care workers? ⭐

A common misconception about the care sector is that only women can be care workers, and this couldn't be further from the truth.

When recruiting our care workers we look for a compassionate attitude and a willingness to support others, regardless of gender. While woman do make up a high percentage of the care sector, it is not restricted to only women. As long as you have what it takes to provide high quality care, you're welcome on our team!

No matter what your background is or how you identify, we encourage all to apply and help us support our service users to live independently at home. With vacancies available across Sheffield, with shift patterns to work around you, apply now: www.carewatch.co.uk/careers/
