Meet John 🌟

John moved to ExtraCare’s Wixams Village with his wife around four years ago while navigating major health challenges, including his dementia diagnosis. Seeking peace of mind, support, and a strong sense of community, they found exactly that at Wixams. Although John sadly lost his wife soon after moving in, the village has continued to support him every step of the way.

From singing in the resident-led choir to enjoying dementia-friendly groups, social events, and daily life around the Bistro, John says there’s always something happening, and always someone kind nearby. “On difficult days, there’s always someone who gently checks in. That everyday kindness makes a world of difference.”

The magic of the holidays shines brightly at Wixams Retirement Village this year! Residents and staff came together once again to support the KidsOut Tree. Now in its third year, the initiative championed by Helen Williams, has seen them donate toys, books and practical essentials for children affected by domestic abuse.
We are inspired by the generosity of our community and the heartfelt way they have embraced the true Christmas spirit. Thank you to everyone who helped make such a meaningful difference for children in need.

Christine, an inspiring 88-year-old resident here at Wixams retirement village is embarking on a unique fundraising effort, marking nearly a decade of using her age as a ‘marker’ to support important causes.

Since moving into the village in February, Christine says making close connections has proven trickier for her than most due to her severe hearing loss.

Despite her hearing aids she has chosen to fundraise for new "Chitty Chat Benches" at her village which will be valuable to many.

The benches will encourage spontaneous social interaction, offering a space for people feeling low to sit and be joined by others for conversation.

The 80-minute daily walks will take place around the lakes at Wixams Village where the safe, well-constructed paths are ideal for her challenge.

Christine hopes that others will join her for some of the walking and those that can will donate to the cause.

We are pleased to share the below on behalf of the Development Team.

The Development Team are delighted to announce that we have been granted planning permission to embark on an exciting expansion project for Wixams Retirement Village.

The expansion will see the transformation of the current village into a larger vibrant community, catering to the evolving needs of both residents and the community.

Getting to this point has involved a lot of hard work from a number of people and we can’t wait to get started to bring more homes and facilities to the wider Bedford community.
