This time of year can bring a lot of stress with exams and assignment deadlines. It is normal to feel stressed because they are important to us and we want to do well in them. If we didn't have any stress, we wouldn't feel motivated to do any revision or work but when we have too much then it can cause anxiety and we might avoid studying completely. Therefore, we want to strike a balance of stress levels.

We want to share tips on how to cope with stress during exam/assessment period. Most importantly, remember that you are doing your best and to be kind to yourself.

Today is World Earth Day 2026, a day in which we can celebrate nature and all that it gives us!

Getting amongst nature is a great way to look after our wellbeing - we can take a walk through the park, noticing the sounds of the birds and smell of the flowers whilst getting some physical activity. Or we might like to grow some fruit or veg on the window-box, taking notice of how it grows over time.

Being amongst nature can also help us to connect with others. Sustainable Merton offers a range of volunteering opportunities which can help us to connect with new people as well as feeling connected to our community through Merton Garden Streets or Community Gardening and Growing.

Why not try creating a gratitude jar this Sunday!

A Gratitude Jar is a simple way to support our self-care and wellbeing and create feelings of positivity by reflecting on how we feel.

You can do this daily and build things up over time. Or when you are feeling particularly grateful for something you can add it to the jar. When things are difficult you can use the jar for your own inspiration or to help lift your mood.

Your gratitude could be based on anything, even the sunshine on your walk, a kind message from a friend or simply a happy moment from your day. If you are feeling stuck on ideas, you can use some of our examples.
