Today is International Self-Care Day — a reminder that looking after yourself isn’t selfish, it’s necessary.

Self-care doesn’t have to be big or expensive. It’s often the little things that make the biggest impact:

Speak to yourself with kindness
Take a moment to ground yourself and take in your surroundings
Stay hydrated
Relax by watching a favourite movie and let yourself unwind

runs from the 18th of July until the 17th of August.

This year’s theme is encouraging people to celebrate their family’s journeys from South Asia to the UK. It is a time for reflection on how stories are shared through South Asian culture, language, art, food, dance, music and literature to build bridges between the past, present and future and create a sense of community and identity, celebrating the contributions made by the South Asian community to British society.
For more information on SAMH and the events taking place throughout the month, visit the South Asian Heritage Trusts website: https://southasianheritage.org.uk/

Mindfulness is a state of mind where you focus on the present, by observing what is happening in your environment and your thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations, doing so without judgement.

Mindfulness can be done during meditation or in everyday activities. Why not try this exercise to become more mindful? Try sitting/standing by an open window and focusing on what is happening outside. You can also use your five senses to help you become aware of how you are feeling, such as the sensation of the cool breeze blowing on your face.
