We're excited to welcome Cat Taylor to our conference on Friday 27 March at Cheltenham Racecourse!

Cat will lead an afternoon workshop on Emotionally Based School Avoidance, designed to bridge theory and practice, supporting professionals to feel more confident when working with anxious young people in educational and mental health contexts.

This unique workshop explores the psychological and neuroscientific foundations of school avoidance, helping professionals understand why anxiety shows up so powerfully during this stage of development and what helps support young people long term.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
✅Understand what drives anxiety in young people, especially around school
✅Use practical, evidence-based tools to support emotional regulation
✅Help young people build long-term coping skills, not short-term avoidance
✅Bring these approaches into everyday work to help all young people live rich, meaningful lives

About Cat
Cat is a Mental Health Specialist and Children's Therapist with over 20-years of experience working in frontline psychiatric services and health promotion, dealing with issues such as su***de prevention and school avoidance. She has developed ground breaking therapeutic approaches to support at risk young people, and advises organisations on how to become more psychologically informed.

With insights from neuroscience and real-world practice, Cat’s session will offer clear strategies you can use straight away to help young people feel empowered, regulated, and supported long-term.

Our latest research shows a more than 40% rise in autistic children entering Gloucestershire’s state education system.

Since 2022, there has been a 23% increase of pupils with autism in state-funded primary schools, from Reception to Year 6, and 31.5% increase in state-funded secondary schools.
Yet only 50% of autistic primary school pupils – and just 35% in secondary school – have an EHC plan!

This comes as the Government announces a £200m SEND teacher training investment, helping every teacher better support Neurodivergent young people.

All of this highlights exactly why our 2026 Children & Young People’s Mental Health Conference on Friday 27 March at Cheltenham Racecourse matters!

The theme of this year's conference is ‘Understanding and Working with Neurodivergence’, aiming to provide professionals with the tools and understanding they need to better support Neurodivergent young people. Neurodivergence can have a big impact on mental health, and when young people feel worried, frustrated, angry or sad, it can be confusing and isolating. This event will focus on practical strategies to help professionals respond in ways that make a real difference.

18‑year‑old Logan Gibbins, founder of the Gloucestershire Neurodivergent Young Council, lives with ADHD (Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder) and shared just how vital this is:
👉 “The teachers who had neurodiversity training were my favourite because they understood me.”
