đŸ”„ 🐎 Year of the Fire Horse 2026 đŸŽđŸ”„

Big energy. Bold movement. Fast momentum.

In Chinese Medicine, Fire is all about vitality, joy, connection and expression. The Horse brings drive, freedom and forward motion. Put them together and we get a year that wants us to move, create, speak up and live a little louder.

But here’s the thing

Fire can warm and inspire us
or it can scorch us.

In simple terms, Chinese Medicine talks about balance between two forces â˜Żïž:

‱ the active, outward, go-go-go YANG energy
‱ the quieter, restoring, cooling YIN energy

If we only run on adrenaline and ambition, we burn through our reserves. If we balance action with proper rest and nourishment, we thrive.

And in the turbulent, fast-changing world we’re living in right now, that balance matters more than ever.

So how do we harness Fire Horse energy without burning out?

✹ 1. Move your body daily — but don’t empty the tank.
Think steady strength, walking in nature, stretching, breath-led movement. Consistency over intensity.

✹ 2. Protect your nervous system.
Limit doom-scrolling. Build in pauses. Breathe slowly and deeply (longer exhale than inhale). Fire needs containment.

✹ 3. Prioritise sleep like it’s sacred.
Late nights scatter Fire. Earlier evenings anchor it.

✹ 4. Eat to stabilise energy.
Regular meals. Warm, nourishing food. Avoid living on caffeine, sugar and stress.

✹ 5. Feed joy and connection.
Fire thrives on meaningful conversation, laughter, creativity and purpose.

This year isn’t about playing small. It’s about moving forward with heart without sacrificing your health to get there.

Let’s be strong, steady and lit from within. đŸ”„đŸŽ

In Mandarin a common greeting at the Chinese Lunar New Year is,

“Gong Xi Fa Kai” 🧧 and “Kung Hei Fat Choi” in Cantonese.

Which means “Wishing you happiness and prosperity”

It can feel like a tough world for our young folks these days. Sometimes (just like adults) things can build up until they reach a tipping point.

I can help with acupuncture to bring your nervous system back into balance, encouraging a shift out of being stuck in fight or flight mode and back into ‘rest and digest’.

And we do some work together getting back to basics with looking after ourselves â˜ș

If you are under 16 you’ll need to come with a parent or carer. If you are 16 or over you are still welcome to bring your parent or carer but you also have the option to come by yourself if and when you feel ready.

I now have acupuncture clinic days in Dumfries and Moffat.

Regaining pain-free movement can feel impossible when you’ve been struggling for months, so stories like this one mean everything.

This patient came to me with 5-6 months of persistent golfers/tennis elbow symptoms: pain, limited range of motion, and day-to-day tasks becoming a challenge. After a focused treatment plan of six sessions, they’ve returned to full movement with only the occasional whisper of discomfort. That’s exactly what good musculoskeletal care should achieve: better function, less pain, and confidence in your body again.

From an evidence perspective, acupuncture for MSK conditions works by influencing the nervous system, improving local circulation, reducing inflammatory signalling, and supporting tissue repair. In simple terms, it helps calm irritated structures while encouraging the body to get on with its own healing. When combined with lifestyle guidance and movement advice, it becomes a genuinely holistic approach.

I sometimes hear concerns that acupuncture “doesn’t address the root cause.” In reality, most elbow tendinopathies involve a mix of overloaded tissues, protective muscle tension, and irritated nerves. Acupuncture directly targets those mechanisms: reducing nociceptive input, easing reactive muscle guarding, and improving the environment around the tendon so it can remodel more effectively. And because sessions also include tailored advice on pacing, recovery, and habits, we are working with the underlying contributors, not just the pain signal.

If you’re dealing with stubborn golfers or tennis elbow and progress has stalled, treatment doesn’t have to be an either/or choice. Acupuncture can sit confidently alongside physiotherapy, strength work and self-care, often helping everything else work better.

If you’d like to chat about whether this approach could help you, my messages are open.

đŸ‘»đŸŽƒ Haunted House TCM Edition

The real fright this Halloween is
everyone still eating salads and smoothies at this time in our seasonal year đŸ„¶

As the weather cools, your Spleen Qi needs warmth: soups, stews, roasted root veg, not icy potions! Keep digestion strong and spirits high with foods that comfort from the inside out.
