One of our Pilates regulars Gillian completed the MS Walk 2025 on Friday with her siblings to raise money for MS research.

They've witnessed first hand how MS can impact a loved ones life. Unbelievably, 2 wonderful women in their family were diagnosed. Most recently their Mum, Pat who many of you will also know. She never complains and has shown bravery and strength since her diagnosis.

MS is an unpredictable and incurable condition that affects people's nervous systems. It can attack suddenly or progress steadily, bringing a range of symptoms which can include sight loss, incontinence, fatigue and mobility problems. No-one with MS can be sure when or how it will affect them next.

If you would like to donate towards life-changing MS research please follow the link below!

Tennis Elbow Beginners Rehab 💪🏻

What is tennis elbow?
Tennis elbow is also known as lateral epicondylitis and is a condition which causes pain around the outside of the elbow and can extend into the forearm.

What causes it?
It is often caused by overuse or repetitive strain of the tendons on the outside of the elbow.

Who is most likely to suffer from it?
Individuals aged 30-50 are the most likely to develop this, especially if they have had a sudden increase in activity, reduced flexibility or strength and complete repetitive occupational tasks such as typing, DIY and manual labour.

Signs and Symptoms
1 – pain or burning on the outside of the elbow, sometimes radiating down the forearm
2 – tenderness around the bone on the outside of the elbow
3 – weak grip strength
4 – pain when lifting, twisting the arm, shaking hands or repetitively using tools

Management
We have attached some beginner exercises to try out if you are experiencing tennis elbow. Other management and prevention tips include:
1 – warm up before activity and stretch the forearm muscles
2 – avoid repetitive wrist extension movements where possible and take breaks
3 – ensure proper technique in sports or work tasks which require repeated wrist extension

If you need support following an injury or would like advice to reduce the risk of injury our team of physios and sports therapists can support by providing personalised rehabilitation and treatment tailored to your needs. Get in touch to book an appointment.

Our fab physio Lauren has just completed a 12-day trek from Andorra to the Mediterranean Sea along the GR11 route in the Pyrenees — covering over 300 km and climbing a total of 14,650 metres in elevation (that’s the equivalent of summiting Ben Nevis 11 times!).

This trek is part of Endurance for Change, a trio of physically demanding challenges Lauren has taken on to encourage others to say yes to adventure, step outside their comfort zones, and raise both awareness and funds for three remarkable charities:

🏔 CALICO – Supporting families affected by childhood cancer
🎿 AFPST – Helping injured serving and veteran military personnel through adaptive snow sports
🧠 Bigmoose – Providing fast access to help for mental health, suicidal ideation, and homelessness

To support Lauren’s efforts, you can visit her fundraising page https://givestar.io/profile/d419dfc9-6eac-4c00-9b42-6e9a442ead36
or follow her journey at , where she shares regular updates and behind-the-scenes moments from her training and adventures.

She’ll be back in clinic soon but with one final challenge still to come, the adventure isn’t over yet - she will be heading to the Wadi Rum desert in October to complete a 5-day ultra marathon! 🐪

Lauren is the perfect physio for any of you who are endurance athletes or like taking on gruelling challenges! She has both the physio knowledge and personal experience to help support you through your journey. Call or message now to book for next week when she's back!

Hamstring rehab

What are hamstring injuries?
The hamstrings are a group of 3 muscles which sit in the back of the thigh and perform hip extension and knee flexion. Hamstring injuries can include strains, tendinopathies and avulsion fractures.

Who is it likely to effect?
Anyone can sustain a hamstring injury, but it is common in athletes who participate in sports which involve jumping, sprinting and sudden changes of direction. As people age and muscle loses strength and flexibility, they can also be more susceptible to hamstring injuries.

Signs and symptoms
1.Sudden sharp pain in the back of the thigh
2.A popping or tearing sensation may be felt
3.Tenderness, swelling and bruising over the affected area
4.Weakness in the leg
5.Reduced range of movement in the leg

Recovery time
Recovery depends on the severity and type of injury. Mild hamstring injuries may take days to weeks to recover but complete ruptures will take months to recover. Hamstrings may be susceptible to re-injury, particularly if they have not healed fully, individuals return to sport prematurely and rehabilitation is not completed.

Management
An initial period of rest is recommended. Following this, management will vary depending on the severity and type of injury, but typically gentle range of movement exercises should be done to prevent stiffness and improve flexibility. Gradually strength exercises should be introduced into rehab to improve hamstring strength and endurance. This will increase as it is tolerated then sports specific training should be completed to allow safe return to activity and minimise the risk of re-injury.

Attached are some exercises which can be used to prevent the risk of hamstring injuries or during hamstring injury rehab. If you have any questions or have sustained an injury our team of physios and sports therapists can support by providing personalised rehabilitation and treatment tailored to your needs and provide personalised programmes.
