Determination Fitness

Determination Fitness A page for tips, advice and links on things health, nutrition and fitness related. I never found it. I have been there personally.

Run by a personal trainer, who used to be 70lbs heavier and always looking for the quick solution. Now I'm trying to stop others from wasting their time and money too. What I found was that most people had a good idea what they needed to do, but were struggling with motivation, and psychological barriers. In addition they were also suffering from the confusion of the fitness industry of conflicting and misinformation. I have first-hand experience of an unhealthy lifestyle, weight issues, food issues and mental health problems. To understand more I have taken many personal trainer courses, but I also have a BSc Psychology and an MSc Health Psychology. Feel free to ask for tips on your current exercise plans, supplements you're considering, objects you've seen in the gym that you're not sure what they do, or any other aspect of fitness, nutrition or motivation you're struggling with. To get in shape takes a little knowledge and a lot of determination.

I often help people deal with unhelpful thoughts that include statements revolving around the word "should".

"I should be doing this", "I should be doing that".
"I shouldn't have to be anxious", "I should be able to do the same as other people".

Now, these thoughts have their place. It's good to be able to express our frustrations, and I personally love a good rant.
But...

If these are our only thoughts, they don't help us. These thoughts don't help us plan or adapt. They don't take into account our strengths. They're not kind to us, to help us where we need it.

These thoughts don't have any effect on reality, and they can be detrimental to our mental health.
Instead, try to shift focus to what you can do in the present moment to move forward. Let's work together to reframe unhelpful thoughts and live our best lives.

Exercise has been shown to boost endorphins, which are chemicals in the brain that make you feel good.

So, if you're feeling down or stuck in a rut, anything that gets you up and moving can make a little difference in the right direction.

"It's too hot". "I'm tired." "I should have done a workout anyway." "I shouldn't have eaten so much".

A lot of us are quick to criticise ourselves and beat ourselves up. We know this is not helpful; we'd never do it to anyone we cared for.

Remember that being kind to yourself is crucial for your mental health. Don't be too hard on yourself when things don't go as planned. Remember to take care of your mind and body, and treat yourself with the same kindness and compassion you would show to a friend.

It's great to see so many people hitting the gym and taking their fitness seriously, but with the sun shining bright and summer in full swing, it can be tough to find a quiet spot to work out.
Don't let that discourage you! There are plenty of ways to stay active and healthy, even when the gym is crowded.

Get creative, try new things, and most importantly, keep moving! Just make sure to take more breaks and replenish any fluids.
