I visited Jun after seeing his details online. I have been experiencing hip pain for the last few years and assumed it was bursitis. However after one visit, Jun diagnosed that it wasn’t bursitis and following an hour of manipulation, the pain has subsided dramatically. Extremely happy with the results and already booked in to get him to work on the rest of my dilapidated body!

Are you a wonky donkey?

Maybe you've been told you have a tilted pelvis?

You're not alone - 75-85% of people have pelvic imbalances.

The fix isn't to force the pelvic back into alignment, but to address what's caused it in the first place.

Here are a few reasons:

- Old injuries such as an ankle or knee sprain, causing the body to lean away from the joint.

- Improper use of muscles such as long term sitting, causing muscles to tighten up in one area, and weaken in another.

- True structural anomalies from birth or accidents, such as leg length differences.

Attempting to treat without finding out the root cause is like fixing a pipe with duct tape - the problem will return.

So,

Book a free assessment

Let us investigate and clarify what's causing the imbalance

And stop the compensation pattern in its track!

My 11 y.o daughter had pain in her heels and ankles on and off for 3 years. It was restricting her activities and meant she had to frequently sit out at school. It was diagnosed as a growing condition (Severs) and nothing we tried helped reduce the pain. Finally I came across this clinic focusing on pain and thought it was worth a try. We are really glad we did. So far, Jun's treatments have significantly reduced the pain she feels and also, the pain lasts for a much shorter time if it does occur after an activity. Jun has very good anatomical knowledge and his treatment techniques are fascinating and effective. I very much recommend a visit to Hesteyri if you have pain which hasn't responded to more conventional treatments.

There's no scan for pain.

You've heard of X-Ray, MRI, Ultrasound, CT Scan etc etc.

You might even have experienced them yourself.

Your consultant then sits you down, shows you the pictures, and tells you so and so is happening to your body.

You look at the pictures, you see your insides, your muscles, your joints. You might even see some bits that your consultant said are arthritic.

Yet, there is nothing there that actually shows you your PAIN.

Pain is a perception.

It's one of your senses, like your sense of touch, smell, vision. It's something that's generated in your brain.

Sometimes your brain makes mistakes.

When it comes to your long term aches and pains, your brain is holding onto it.

There's no use just looking at your symptoms, where it hurts, where's the arthritis, and what pills to take.

You have to find out what's really caused it in the first place.

Doesn't matter what tyres you put on, if the engine isn't working properly, your car simply won't go.

That's where we come in.

We look at the perception part of your brain, where pain arise from, and address the root cause of the pain.

We take care of your perception, your brain takes care of the pain, you take control of your body.

It's time to feel like yourself again.

Long Term Pain

Someone approached me recently about their elbow pain, apparently they've had it on & off for 2 years now.

No known onset, just came on gradually over a few months.

They've been to their doctors, was diagnosed with Tennis elbow, given painkillers, and was told to rest the arm.

Being a construction worker, resting was clearly not possible.

They noticed that recently they started to get shoulder and neck problems on the same side. Possibly due to compensation.

"I've tried painkillers, elbow straps, stretching, but none of them really got rid of the pain"

And so I explained to them:

"What you're experiencing now is unlikely a physical problem anymore, most tissues heal up after 6-9 months.

After that healing time, if you still have pain, it's more likely a neurological issue, where your body is sending wrong signals to your brain, causing your brain to overreact to stimulus in the elbow."

Now every time you use or stretch your elbow, your brain decides to protect you by tightening the muscles, and giving you pain.

What you need is a neurological approach to your problem, not painkillers and stretching!"

They're not the only one suffering with this type of issues.

In fact most adults suffer from long term pain - lower back pain, knee pain, shoulder restrictions etc.

If you're reading this and have pain lasting more than 6 months, now is a good time to get it fixed - before it spreads to other parts of the body through over-compensation.

This was a w/e of Jun the teacher of his Muscle Testing to assess the neurological receptors involved in pain and then to apply it to Bowen. Good course. Plenty of time for practice, questions and pushing the boundaries of the syllabus so all very helpful, liked to flexibility. I will be using this assessment plan and have a friend coming round to be a body for me + I’ve signed into Google to do this review and I loathe Google.

Very interesting course thank you Jun.Will take a bit of practice but this MMT technique will be a very valuable tool.

Jun is such an informative, fun and knowledgable tutor. I really enjoyed his CPD course, Part: Neurological Assessment for Bowen Therapists/Body Workers. I found the content fascinating and very enlightening. I'm looking forward to learning how I may help my clients even more, from Jun, in the future .

Hold on!!
Story time!

I met Jane two weeks ago after work, she was enquiring about our services.

Jane was a very well dressed lady in her early 50s, clearly just finished work and rushed over to the clinic before we close for the day.

"Hi I'm wondering whether you can help me with my sciatic pain? A friend of mine told me about you," Jane asked, "I've had it for over 15 years and seen so many people for it, but it's still stopping me from moving properly!"

"So sorry to hear that Jane, I can see that you're not walking evenly. What have you tried so far?" I questioned.

"Well I've been to my doctors, and had lots of scans, but they haven't found anything and referred me to their pain clinic, but that didn't help all that much to be honest," Jane explained, with a slight frown on her face,

"Then I've been to other therapists and had some improvements over the years, but I'm still very stiff especially in the mornings, and during the day I can't stand for long"

"Come on in, let me have a look" I offered.

After doing some assessments, it was very clear that her pain now originates from neurological issues, so called "software issue" of her body.

"So why do I still have the pain after so many years?" Jane enquired, "I don't want to keep taking painkillers!"

"That's because your pain isn't because something is physically broken, it's more like a computer with a computer virus, as opposed to having a broken keyboard," I explained.

"Sometimes after an injury, your brain becomes sensitised to the area, and even after it's healed, your brain carries on protecting you by giving you pain," I continued, "it's a protective mechanism, just in this case gone on for too long!"

Jane's face lit up, "That makes so much sense! So what can we do?"

"Well," I smiled, "that's why you're here! We're a bit like the IT guys for your brain, we need to first find out what kind of computer virus you have, and where, then re-wire it so that you brain calms down about the area!"

Jane booked in for a few treatments after our conversation.

Fast forward 2 weeks, Jane came in yesterday morning with a big grin on her face, "I'm sending my husband and son in next week. Look at me!" Jane twirled on the spot on her previously painful leg.

"Whoa! Steady on Jane!" I laughed, "I'm glad you're already feeling better, much to do still, come on in!"

Our job as therapists is so very fulfilling, really!

Seeing you come back in with a big grin on your face, anyone can guess that you've had a great week.

Success stories are great to read on the surface, but I know for Jane, being able to use her body confidently means a lot more than just being pain-free. It goes deeper than that.

Much deeper.

That's all for today! Just wanted to share a story with you 😊

Have a lovely day!!

What is Bowen?

What do we know?

There have been many studies into Bowen therapy and research is still ongoing. Dr Bernie Carter and his team from the University of Lancaster carried out research on the effectiveness of the treatment of frozen shoulder. According to the study, all participants showed a significant improvement in shoulder mobility and function. By the end of the treatment, 70% of participants regained full mobility.

Other positive findings included reduced pain intensity and improvement in daily activities by all volunteers. No one reported that their pain was having a severe impact on their daily lives.

How can it help me?
