Monmouth Raft Race

‘WALK THE WYE CHALLENGE’ on Sunday 10th May is a fundraising walking event in the lower Wye Valley, organised by Rotary Monmouth to raise funds for the ‘Velindre’ breast cancer research team. The event is an adaptation to the long running series of annual Walk the Wye events run by Rotary Monmouth.
In response to requests from previous participants, the event now has a more varied and challenging format, rising to the ridges above the Wye.
Instead of the six riverbank walks previously on offer, there will be four routes to choose from, each one consisting of a different degree of challenge.
The event will be based at Monmouth Show Ground. There is free parking at the Show Ground and free buses will take walkers to the start of the Chepstow and Tintern to Monmouth walks. The other 2 walks are circular, starting and finishing at the Show Ground.

Some information here regarding road closures for the The City of Newport Half Marathon for any locals 🚧

🚧 ROAD CLOSURES – City of Newport Half Marathon – Sunday 1st March 2026 🚧

Please be aware that road closures and traffic restrictions will be in place across Newport on Sunday 1st March for the KLA City of Newport Half Marathon.

Runners will be using Usk Way and roads through Newport city centre and Caerleon, including:

➡️ Usk Way (start/finish area)
➡️ SDR Bridge & Clarence Road
➡️ Newport Bridge & Caerleon Road
➡️ Caerleon village roads & riverside paths
➡️ Millennium Bridge crossings
➡️ Multiple connecting local roads along the route 📍

🚗 Plan ahead:
• Some roads will be closed or have restricted access from early morning until mid-day.
• Bus, cycle and pedestrian access may be affected in places.
• Please allow extra time for travel, parking and deliveries.
• Local access for residents may be possible but expect delays.

Despite the challenges of the 2025 Monmouth Raft Race some thirty-five teams took part and still managed to make a big splash by raising almost £14,000 of which £11,144 has just been presented to St Davids Hospice Care Chief Executive Emma Saysell.

The charity was hugely indebted to the Rotarians and the generous hearted people of Monmouth who had now donated a massive £300,000 since the raft race was taken over by the club in 2004, she revealed.

TODAY IS THE DAY. It's the 5th NOVEMBER when the Monmouth Bonfire and Fireworks event, organised by Rotary Monmouth, will take place.
It will be in the field next to Monmouth Rowing Club.
Gates open at 6pm and Mayor Jackie Atkins will light the bonfire at 6:30. The fireworks display will start at 7pm and promises to be even better than last year, with spectacular effects and colours.
Entry at £6 for adults, £3 for children and £15 for families (2 adults + 2 children) represents exceptional value for money.
Pay at the gate by cash or card.
No car parking at the field. Please park in town car parks and streets.
Danters will be will be bringing various stalls and serving burgers, hot dogs etc. And for the last event of their year, M&M Ices will be providing ice creams.
It'll be a great evening.
