Important Update with regards to the 58th Monmouth RAFT RACE

Sunday 7th September 2025

CONFIRMATION THAT THE 2025 MONMOUTH RAFT RACE WILL TAKE PLACE ON 7th SEPTEMBER

Statement issued 30th August

As a result of the recent rain, and the forecast of more rain in the coming days, the Raft Race will take place on Sunday 7th September.

The event will start at Monmouth Rowing Club NP25 3DP at 12 noon.

The Start car park is accessible from the Dixton Roundabout on the A40 at Monmouth NP25 3SY.

Why not come along and see the fantastic raft designs before they launch on their 6.5 mile trip down the River Wye to Whitebrook NP25 4TT.

Then visit the Finish at Whitebrook from 13:00 where there is a Family Festival, including Hog Roast and licensed bar.

As a result of the extreme weather this summer, the River Wye is at a very low level.

Some rain is forecast in the next few days, but this may not be
significant. We are holding off making a decision to cancel the raft race, and will review the situation on Sunday 31st August.

The major concerns are……
• Several sections of the route can only be navigated by dragging, or carrying, rafts over the stoney riverbed. Approx 400 yards in total. This is potentially dangerous for raft crews to undertake. Particularly for the heavier rafts.

• Please ensure your team is capable of navigating the stoney sections. Try to make your raft as light as possible.

• Additionally, the river is flowing very slowly. So more physical effort will be needed to paddle over the 6 mile course.

• The River Wye is an important natural environment, currently under stress due to the low water levels. A raft race could cause damage to the riverbed and the wildlife that the river supports.

Should we cancel

We can refund your entry fee to the debit or credit card
that was used for your entry. However, we would ask if we can keep your entry fee and donate it to St David’s Hospice Care. Similarly, if you decide to withdraw your entry.

We appreciate that cancellation would be disappointing, but it would be irresponsible for us to continue to run the event if river conditions do not improve.

Why not ask your employer, or pub landlord, to enter a raft on your behalf?

Constructing a raft and taking part is a great team building activity. Lots of fun, good publicity, and in support of a very worthwhile cause.

All sponsorship monies received by Monmouth Rotary Club from persons taking part in the Monmouth Raft Race will be donated to St David’s Hospice Care and other charities supported by Monmouth Rotary Club.

Fancy a hospitality pitch at the Monmouth Raft Race?

Hospitality pitches are available at the raft race finish. The cost is £100 for a 20 x 20 metre pitch upon which you can erect your own Tent/Gazebo, Marquee or BBQ.
You are able to serve drinks and food to your friends and supporters, provided no money changes hands.
