‘Movember’ is Men’s Health Awareness Month is celebrated annually to draw attention to physical and mental health challenges facing men. We will be sending out information to encourage men to prioritize their well-being through early detection of issues like prostate and testicular cancer, addressing mental health, and promoting overall health and wellness.

The first is ‘Grab your Gonads’, a humorous twist on the importance of checking testicles regularly!

Make an appointment to see your GP if you notice any changes (lumps / swellings / dull abdominal ache / blood in your semen).

September is Sepsis Month and today is World Sepsis Day!

Across the world it’s an opportunity to raise both healthcare and public awareness of this condition.

In Morecambe and Fleetwood Urgent Treatment Centre we have resources on display showing the signs in both adults and children. We also have leaflets available on both Sepsis and Spotting the unwell child.

Please take a moment to look at these as Sepsis tragically claims 48,000 lives in the UK each year.

We have recently introduced a new system called ‘ED streamer’ which will help improve the patient flow and experience. The system works via an iPad asking a series of questions to prioritise patients according to clinical need.

Please could I ask for you to bear with us in the short term whilst this system is fully integrated as there may be longer waits than normal.

As always, it is advisable to telephone 111 whenever possible to access appointments for urgent care rather than walking in.

Given the pressure on the NHS at the moment please consider which service is most appropriate for your health needs.

As the weather gets colder, we would like to promote the Warm spaces scheme being run by Lancashire Council. These are an invaluable place for people to stay warm, meet other people and access information.

We are developing a network of warm, safe and welcoming spaces to support residents during the winter months. These warm spaces will provide you with somewhere to keep warm, access information and advice or spend time with others.
