Good morning,
We would like to take a moment to update everyone on the current situation at NWPALS.
As of 31st July, NWPALS will officially cease operations. It has been an incredible journey, and none of it would have been possible without the dedication, passion, and hard work of the amazing team who have been part of this organisation over the years.
Over the past 13 years, weβve proudly delivered thousands of safe patient journeys, including many complex and challenging jobsβoften stepping in where NHS services were unable to. Our ethos has always been simple and heartfelt: to get the patient home safely, because thatβs what we would want for our own families.
We worked right through the pandemic, never stopping. Our teams responded to calls from nursing homes without power for days, ensuring elderly residents were transported with dignity and care. Staff have regularly cancelled personal plans, missed meals, Christmases, and other special events to ensure patients were cared for. That level of dedication canβt be boughtβit comes from true compassion and professionalism.
To every member of the NWPALS team, past and present: thank you. Your resilience, commitment, and heart have left a lasting legacy. It has been an honour to work alongside you.
We also extend our gratitude to the thousands of patients weβve had the privilege to serve. Thank you for your trust over the years.
If you see any of our team over the coming week, please do say hello and thank them. This has been a difficult time, as many are being made redundant from a job they deeply loved. Sadly, the powers that be in the NHS now prioritise cost over quality, awarding contracts to the cheapest providers, regardless of the standard of care.
We would like to thank UHMBT for recognising the importance of continuity and care by taking on a dedicated team to continue transporting patients to the mortuary with dignity and respect.
We are currently awaiting payment of outstanding invoices from North Cumbria Integrated Care , the final NHS trust with a significant balance remaining, and we trust this will be resolved shortly. Good luck also to Morecambe FC βwe hope they will be able to settle their account with us in the coming days.
Itβs been a fantastic 13 years, filled with pride, purpose, and unforgettable moments.
And as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end.
With heartfelt thanks and best wishes,
Jamie Smith
