🎉 Gill’s Birthday Celebration at Esmere Gardens! 🎂🌞

Recently our lovely resident Gill celebrated her birthday surrounded by her wonderful family here at Esmere. She was treated to a heartfelt rendition of Happy Birthday, enjoyed delicious cake, and received thoughtful gifts and cards from her loved ones, fellow residents and our team.

Gill spent a beautiful afternoon in the private dining area and out in the sunshine, cherishing special moments with those closest to her. She was truly touched by everyone’s kindness and wanted to thank all the staff and residents for making her day so memorable.

🚌🚗 August Adventures: A Ride Down Memory Lane 🛞☕

Our August outings had a vintage vehicle twist! First up, we visited the Oxford Bus Museum where residents reminisced about old journeys, uniforms, and days out. The classic Morris Oxford car, in pristine condition, was a highlight for many!

We wrapped up our visit with a cosy cuppa and cookies in the café—perfect for chatting about those golden travel memories. 🫖🍪

These adorable 7-week-old fluffballs, owned by resident George’s granddaughter, were the stars of the day—bringing joy, cuddles, and smiles to everyone they met. 💖

Residents, visitors, and staff alike couldn’t resist a cuddle or two (or ten!), and the pups loved every minute of their big day out. What a heartwarming celebration!

🏰🐓 A Historical Day Out at Cogges Manor Farm 🎩🌾

To round off our August trips, we explored the stunning Cogges Manor Farm—famous as Yew Tree Farm from Downton Abbey! 📺🌿
Our residents loved this 1,000-year-old gem, with hands-on experiences inside the manor and a stroll among the animals.

Arthur even squeezed in a quick croquet game and tried befriending the turkeys! 🦃

The day ended with pastries and chatter at the café—a charming end to a brilliant trip!

🎳💥 Tabletop Bowling Masterclass! 🏆🎯

July’s Tabletop Bowling Championship reached new heights as our residents took strategy and skill to the next level! With hidden scores under each cup, the tension built as everyone tried to suss out the best placements after round one.

Eddie stole the show with an incredible performance—landing three balls in a row into the highest-scoring cup during the second round! 🎉👏 His sharp eye and perfect aim wowed everyone and made for one unforgettable game.

We're already looking forward to next month’s challenge—will Eddie hold his lead or will a new champion emerge? Watch this space! 🏅

🧠🎯 Think Fast, Throw Smart at Esmere Gardens! 🎉🟡🔴

Our residents had a brilliant time this week playing one of their favourite games—‘Something You…’—a fun-filled activity that gets the mind whirring, the beanbags flying, and the laughs flowing! 🤹‍♂️💬

Each round begins with a light-hearted question like “Something you forget…” or “Something you wear…” and after answering, players throw their beanbag onto the score sheet, aiming for the coloured zones to rack up points. 🎯 But hit the white—no score!

The answers had us all in stitches, and the game was closer than ever—with Eddie narrowly beating Jean 14 by just one single point! 🏆😂 A perfect blend of wit, skill, and a little luck!

🌼 July Roundup at Esmere Gardens ☀️

July at Esmere Gardens has been a joyful celebration of friendship, fresh air, and fabulous fun. We kicked things off with the return of Jenna and Julie, our favourite cuddly guinea pigs, who brought smiles all round during their visit. Musical magic followed as Barry, a cherished entertainer and friend of the home, returned with a fresh playlist of classics—along with his signature knack for remembering every resident's name! Meanwhile, birthday cheers were in full swing as we marked John’s 94th with cake, laughter, and, at long last, his beloved spaghetti western on DVD. 🎂🐹🎶

Our green-fingered Gardening Club continued to thrive this month, with the long-awaited potato harvest turning into a delicious group cooking session! With kitchen support from Lesley and team coordination from residents like Rita, Eddie, and Jean, we produced a perfectly seasoned batch of potato salad—tasted, tweaked, and approved by all! In the garden, Luke planted sweet peas around a new bamboo tipi frame, and we’re watching eagerly as they begin to climb. And of course, our visit to the glorious Confetti Fields provided not only floral inspiration for craft projects but a truly VIP day out in nature’s rainbow.

July also brought a burst of playful activity with an inclusive twist on our Cover the Number dice game, now adapted with tactile numbers for all to enjoy. Our Tabletop Bowling tournament heated up again as the competition grows tighter each month. To top it off, the terrace transformed into a slice of Paris as two members of the jazz band D’Accord delivered an intimate, accordion-and-guitar performance in the sunshine. 🎷🥔🪴

🌊🎨 Making Waves with Maritime Art! 🖌️⛵

As you can sea below, we’ve been getting creative at Esmere Gardens with a nautical twist! Our residents made ‘waves’ with a vibrant maritime-themed art session led by the ever-wonderful Abby. Each canvas was thoughtfully prepped to inspire imagination—and even included real Bolsa wood bows to bring each boat to life! ⛵💙

Abby ensured that everyone could take part by preparing tactile canvases, allowing residents with limited or no vision to fully enjoy the experience through touch and colour. The results were fantastic—each piece capturing a unique interpretation of the sea! 🌊💫

Our beautiful new nautical display is now proudly on show in the Bistro for all to admire. A huge thank you to Abby for making it so inclusive and inspiring!

🐴💖 A Surprise Esmere Gardens Visitor – Meet Smartie the Pony! 🌿🎉

George received the most heart-warming surprise when his granddaughter—fresh from Pony Club Camp—popped by Esmere Gardens with a very special guest… her new pony, Smartie! 🐎✨

George had no idea the trailer was arriving, so when Smartie proudly trotted through reception and into the garden, the smile on his face said it all. Not only was it a lovely moment for George, but Smartie quickly became a hit with other residents too—especially those with their own equine memories. 🐾💬

The visit soon turned into a joyful garden gathering full of pony patting, storytelling, and smiles all around. Smartie was beautifully behaved (even braving the walk through reception!) and got a well-earned nibble of the grass while George’s granddaughter told us all about her fun adventures at camp. 🌸💛

🌿✨ A Step Back in Time at Chastleton House 🏛️🌸

Our residents enjoyed a beautiful visit to Chastleton House and Gardens—our stunning local stately home dating back to the 1600s. From a fascinating virtual tour to a relaxing stroll through the picturesque gardens, it was a real treat for our keen gardeners.

Eddie was especially impressed to learn that nearly all of the garden's upkeep is done by dedicated volunteers. “They do a fantastic job,” he said—and we all agreed! 🌼👏

🎶💬 Singalong Joy with MindSong 🎵☕

We had a joyful visit from the lovely MindSong volunteers recently! They had our residents tapping, smiling, and harmonising to familiar tunes—including a perfect finish to a split round of Pack up Your Troubles and It’s a Long Way to Tipperary. 👏

Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a warm drink, a slice of cake, and a friendly natter with the MindSong team. A heart-lifting session full of music, connection, and community. 💛
