At Midian Care we understand how difficult it can be for elderly / vulnerable individuals to do their own shopping, sometimes because of poor mobility or the sheer volume of shoppers in the supermarket.
Because of this they tend to visit the local convenience store and purchase whatever is in the shops small freezers, often leading to a poor diet and a costly bill.
Midian Care do shopping for a number of their service users and offer three options
Option 1. The service user provides us a shopping list and we will purchase and deliver.
Option 2. We can meet with the service user to discuss a meal plan and then purchase and deliver.
Option 3. We can accompany the Service user on their shopping trips.
These can be run alongside a full care package or as a one-off service weekly, fortnightly or monthly
Maybe you are concerned for a neighbour, friend or loved one, if so;

Lewy body dementia (LBD) and Alzheimer's disease are the two most common forms of dementia that differ in a number of key ways.
LBD tends to progress faster and affects many different and physical domains, including thought, behaviour, alertness, awareness, sleep, moods, and movement.
's progresses somewhat slower and mainly affects memory, behaviour, awareness, and language.
Because the causes and risk factors differ, the treatment of LBD and Alzheimer's also vary. Even so, LBD is frequently mistaken for Alzheimer's and, as such may be treated inappropriately.

The beginning of a new year is a great time to make healthy lifestyle changes, give up bad habits, and improve your well-being.

1. Lose weight and keep it off
A resolution to lose weight is one of the most important steps you can take toward better health. Losing just five to ten percent of your body weight can help lower your risk of chronic health conditions, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure.

2. Eat a healthy diet
Healthy eating involves both what you eat and how you eat. Getting your recommended servings of fruits and vegetables each day is important because fruits and veggies are low in calories and fat, high in fiber, and rich sources of vitamins and minerals. Foods that contain fiber keep you feeling full, which helps you lose weight.

3. Sit less, move more
If you haven’t exercised for a while, going to a gym every day may not be a realistic goal. Making a resolution to simply add more physical activity into your daily life is more attainable. An easy way to become active is to sit less and move more. Park farther away from the entrance to the grocery store, take the stairs instead of the elevator, and exercise while you watch TV.

4. Schedule an annual checkup
Seeing your primary care doctor each year and taking advantage of your preventive care benefits can help you stay healthy.

5. Take steps to reduce stress
Learning how to manage stress is an important part of taking care of yourself and maintaining good overall mental and physical health.

6. Get more sleep
Good quality sleep boosts your immune system and promotes emotional wellness by giving your mind time to rest and recharge. Establishing a relaxing bedtime routine, limiting screen time before bed, and creating a quiet sleep environment can help you get the sleep you need.

7. Create a plan to stop smoking
Smoking harms nearly every organ in the body and is the leading cause of preventable death in the United Kingdom.

How can I make Day run smoothly for the person with ?

The festive season usually involves family get-togethers, which can be stressful if you are supporting someone living with dementia.
It might be exciting to catch up with family and friends, but you may also feel worried about how to prepare them for seeing your loved one with dementia if they haven’t seen them for a while.

Deborah Hutchinson ( a specialist dementia nurse working on the Admiral Nurse Dementia Helpline) explains:
• Changes to routine can make a person living with dementia feel uneasy, so keep activities simple and try to stick to their normal routine. Do day-to-day tasks like getting up, washing and dressing, having breakfast and taking medication at the same time as usual.
• Open presents as the main morning activity and take a break if the person becomes overwhelmed. Aim to prepare and eat lunch at the normal time and include some of the foods that your loved one usually enjoys.
• Try a short activity in the afternoon like going for a walk and getting some fresh air, or let them rest if they need to.
• Take your lead from the person living with dementia. Loud music, busy social interactions and changes to their routine can cause confusion and distress so try to avoid them if you can – for example, look for alternatives like no-snap crackers. You may need to stop the festivities for a while or provide them with a quiet place to take some time out, like a bedroom.

Midian Care would like to share its deepest condolences with the entire Royal Family after the very sad news that Her Majesty The Queen has died. Her Majesty was a towering figure in the life of our nation throughout her long reign, and was loved, respected and admired.

For our service users and for many older people she was simply inspirational. We will miss her hugely. God bless.
