✨I know you’re all here because you love slings but…
🧷I don’t know who needs to hear this but if you’re in a pinch a couple of muslins will work as a really decent cloth nappy!

🧷So can I get a show of hands and a comment please if you use cloth nappies?

🧷If you do what ones are you loving/hating?

🧷If you’re not using cloth yet what are the reasons?

🧷If there was a nappy library alongside the sling library would you give it a go?

(Just look at my baby’s chunky lil legs 🥰)

🥶 Brrr it’s February and still very chilly! We’re staying toasty warm and cosy by sharing body heat in the sling 🥰
Also I have a to do list as long as my arm which involves walking the dog then making a huge amount of lime pickle with a teething baby and drinking a cup of tea in peace 😅

🌊Slings are super handy whatever the task!

🌊I’m still working remotely but I’m here for you. If you need a sling pop me a message 💞

I could’ve written this post myself here!
Why are folk abusing our sling libraries?

I have an extremely expensive Oscha Bairn Starry Night carrier that has failed to be rehired or returned for over 6 months now and another family are on hold waiting to borrow it!
This is selfish, unacceptable and unfair on other families wishing to hire.

When you sign up to hire a sling you agree to the terms and conditions which include returning the sling you borrowed on time or paying for it.
I am a small self funded business, I’m not a charity, I don’t get grants and your hire money helps to keep it all running as well as pay for things like my little boys swimming lessons or an extra bag if groceries.

When slings go missing it really upsets me, it feels like a personal attack. We’re all grown ups here and this should not be happening.

🌊Catching a glimpse of January sunlight this morning on our dog walk 🌅
Baby was happy, dog was happy and of course happy mummy!
🌊Last week we had a walk that was the polar opposite with my little one protesting bitterly, the dog barking constantly and myself stomping along that beach as fast as I could to get home and rip the sling off!

I think we are often sent the child we need and this little girl is helping me relearn babywearing in so many ways.
She’s very happy in a pram 🙈 not great for business right!
I also have a dog to walk and I like to take a route that isn’t pram friendly so slings are still an absolute must.

🌊So what do you do if baby is unhappy in the sling?
Well you can take them out but if you need to get things done here are some tips:

Work on the fit, does it look safe?
Is it comfortable?
Follow TICKS guidelines (see photo)
Little and often, try wearing around the house for short periods of time when baby is settled.
Don’t forget the dummy or comforter if your baby has one 🤦🏼‍♀️ (yeah I did that too)
Check clothing is suitable some outfits affect how the sling fits (denim isn’t great, no snowsuits)
Try all of the slings in the world 😅 (we have a few)
❓Can you think of anything else? Leave me a comment if you can think of any I’ve missed

It’s suitable 6-14kg and you can front and back carry with it.
This is a new carrier that I just don’t have room for. Happy to post out if cost is covered.

🚨 CARRYING SAFETY 🚨

Using a snowsuit or pramsuit in a sling or carrier can be dangerous! It may be tempting to wrap baby up when being carried but you forget that they are attached to a radiator... You!

❗Pramsuits and snowsuits are only for in a pram, when baby has no other heat source and open to the elements.

❗When baby is in a carrier, they are getting all the heat from your body as you are moving and walking. You all know how hot you can get when carrying, especially if you have those post birth flushes!

Let's look more at the why it can be dangerous..

‼️Overheating, the major one. All of baby's heat is trapped in the suit and will get warmer with your body heat too. A baby will not be able to tell you they are too hot and probably fall asleep.

‼️ Poor positioning, with a thick padded suit or jacket, it will effect the position of baby in the carrier, they will end up in a starfish position instead of a nice supported seated carry. This can cause slumping and carrier or sling to not fit securely or safely.

This can also be uncomfortable for you and baby.

‼️ Slumping, with all the padding and poor positioning, baby may end up slumping down into the suit or carrier causing an asphyxiation risk.

🥶If you want to keep baby and you warm in the cold, layer up! Layers are easy to open or take off depending what you are doing.

🚨Also remember that the same applies for carseats!

Check out a babywearing jacket or cover instead too. Not sure and need more help? Just get in touch, no judgement atall, I'll help you find a solution that works for you.

👉Check out my other blog, that has all the options for carrying in the cold and covers all budgets.
