Hey folks, just to let you all know, I'll be deleting my insta and FB pages soon. I just can't bring myself to keep using them after the recent policy changes. I know they have never taken reports of bigotry or hate speech seriously, but now they're not even paying lip service to it. I also know that loads of online spaces are often pretty problematic, but meta aren't even pretending to care about basic human decency any more.

If you want to stay connected, I'm on bluesky, mastodon, and YouTube (links in stories today). I'm also happy to swap emails/phone numbers (the latter would be mainly for swapping memes, no actual calls!)

I understand if folk don't want to switch out to different platforms, but I can't be here anymore. I'll miss you, though, and I'm so grateful to everyone who has supported me, offered kindness and understanding, made me laugh, and been a friend. You're amazing souls, and I hope I'll see you all elsewhere online!

We are mammals, pretty bloody big ones. Most mammals do less in winter!

The temptation to push ourselves after new year can be powerful. But I am convinced that a huge part of why a lot of resolutions and yearly goals fizzle out for so many of us is that we don't pace ourselves at this time of year. There's a lot of evidence that we need more rest and sleep right now, not to be doing more. An especially for folk with already busy lives, adding more in at this time of year seems like a great way to burn out, lose momentum, become dispirited and discouraged by not achieving "enough".

Cos we're not bloody supposed to achieve anything except surviving right now! Go survive! Be kind and patient with yourself, then do more as the world wakes up. That's my plan, anyway. To take it easy, to keep my goals in mind til later, to remind myself I'm a bloody big mammal, and I need my beauty sleep in winter!

Or, as Treebeard would say...."Don't be hasty!"

Morning loves, hope you're all well!

I spent yesterday recovering from the Hobbit's Tea Party (sorry to the folk I promised pics to, I ended up spending most of the time talking to my friends, which was WONDERFUL!), today is taking down the last of the Xmas stuff and packing it up again.

I have lots I want to do, to get on with. But I am FINALLY learning to pace myself in January. It's still dark, cold, and a time for resting where possible. Starting my days with a candle and a short story feels like a nice way to honour that!

Please try to be kind to yourselves my friends, take it as easy as you can, and try to remind yourself if you're struggling to keep up with everything right now that studies have shown we need more rest in the winter months, it's not surprising if you're finding life extra hard right now.

I'll be embracing the wisdom of Star Trek, Hobbits, sloths, Bob's Burgers, badgers, Doctor Who, space, self compassion, punks, winter, and more this year!

Whether you have goals, resolutions, aims for this year or not, I hope you'll try to embrace being a bit kinder to yourselves.

Embrace what you love, what brings you joy, what makes you weird and so f**king wonderful...find wisdom, inspiration, motivation, and glimmers in your special interests, passions, and happy places!

Celebrate self compassion, community bonds, and crying as being punk as f**k in cultures that demonise those things!

for 2025...

I'll read others too, but these are the collections I've had around for a while and not gotten to yet. These will be the main sources for my wee 2025 project. Mostly sci fi, some fantasy and near possible worlds too.

I already read the first one today, 'The Finkelstein 5' from Friday Black. Stunning story, powerful, beautiful, challenging. All the things a good short story can be.

Callisto, the space axolotl! A sweet, squishy gift from my wife!
