🧠 Understanding the Nervous System 🧠

Remember to take some time out for YOU and allow your body to heal!

From a chiropractor's perspective, understanding the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems is crucial as they play significant roles in the body's overall function and response to stressors.💥

😳Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS):😳
The sympathetic nervous system is often referred to as the "fight or flight" system. It's responsible for preparing the body for action during stressful situations.

Activation of the SNS results in increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, dilation of the pupils, increased respiration rate, and decreased activity in the digestive system.

From a chiropractic standpoint, chronic activation of the sympathetic nervous system due to stress, poor posture, or spinal misalignments can lead to tension and dysfunction in the musculoskeletal system. This can contribute to conditions such as neck pain, back pain, headaches, and muscle tension.

😊Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS):😊
In contrast to the SNS, the parasympathetic nervous system is often termed the "rest and digest" system. It promotes relaxation, recovery, and restoration.

Activation of the PNS results in decreased heart rate, lowered blood pressure, constriction of the pupils, reduced respiration rate, and increased activity in the digestive system.

Chiropractors understand that optimal function of the parasympathetic nervous system is essential for overall health and well-being. Techniques such as spinal adjustments, which can help correct vertebral misalignments and reduce nervous system interference, may indirectly support the parasympathetic nervous system's function by promoting relaxation and reducing stress.

In chiropractic practice, maintaining balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems is important for overall health. Chiropractors often aim to address spinal misalignments and improve nervous system function to support the body's innate ability to regulate stress responses and promote healing. Techniques such as spinal adjustments, lifestyle modifications, and stress management strategies may be utilized to achieve this balance and optimize overall well-being.🌻

VITAMIN D!

Now that the weather is slowly taking a turn for the better, It is important to get some sunlight on our skin. Go for a walk and soak up some rays.

Our main source of vitamin D is sunlight. In Scotland, we only get enough of the right kind of sunlight for our bodies to make vitamin D between April and September. From October to March, we need to rely on dietary sources of vitamin D.

Everyone, including children, should consider taking a daily supplement. This containing 10 micrograms (10μg) of vitamin D particularly during the winter months (October – March) according to gov.scot.

Every chance you get to let the sun see the skin, DO SO!

HEADACHES!

Headaches are a prevalent issue affecting millions of people worldwide. Whether you suffer from tension headaches, migraines, or cervicogenic headaches, the impact on your daily life can be significant. While many turn to over-the-counter medications for relief, chiropractic care can offer a natural and holistic approach that addresses the root causes of headaches.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), headache disorders are among the most common disorders of the nervous system. It has been estimated that almost half of the adult population have had a headache at least once within the last year. Worldwide, a minority of people with headache disorders are diagnosed appropriately by a health-care provider.

Chiropractors focus on the spine's alignment, as spinal disfunction can contribute to headaches. Specific adjustments, especially in the cervical spine, aim to restore proper alignment, reducing nerve irritation and promoting overall wellbeing, thus enhancing the function of the entire nervous system.
