I would have hoped a senco would see that unqualified 'therapists' are not the solution.

I attended a Seed Talk about this, and was blown away by the lasting effects of trauma - genetics, behaviours, cortisol.
The plus side is using this knowledge can help break/dampen the ripple effect.

Last week, I did this training. It was so empowering. I urge you to find a course. These figures are from 2016, just think what today's figures could be.
Hopefully I never have to use the skills, but if I do I know the worst thing I would have done is shown that I am there for them and kept them 'safe for now'.

My experience makes me not surprised.
This is why I trained as a play therapist. I desperately sought help for my primary age children. Barriers were placed in front of most cases I sought help for. Only when children were actively suicidal were they offered limited face-to-face interventions.

I had a foster child who would use sorry as a plaster and then do the thing again.
I would talk with him about the incident to explore what he was sorry about. Sorry means you want to change what caused harm - be careful, not lash out at me, etc.
It also allowed connection and let him know that I was not angry. I was here for him when those big emotions hit. The past becomes the past.

I was explaining this to a parent today. People can think that the child is being defiant, but actually they are communicating that there is something about the situation that they don't like. Acknowledge the emotion and try to workout what they are trying to tell you.
