🗞 Nailsea and Backwell RFC & Yatton Rugby Club U15s 🆚️ Gordano Rugby Football Club U15s 🗞

It was an excellent morning of rugby, played in good conditions in our fantastic new kit, against a well drilled opposition who played the game in the right spirit

After our setback in Weston a few weeks ago it was great to see the boys taking onboard the learnings and bouncing straight back. From the moment they arrived it was clear they were ready and ‘up for it’ and it set the tone for the whole morning

That’s not to say it was all plain sailing. Gordano quickly took a 10 point lead, however the boys didn’t let their heads drop and fought back with some excellent tackling from Noah and Harley and good tries scored by Isaac M and Rupert

The second half was also a tense affair with momentum swings throughout the half. Two Gordano tries were answered with a good try from Alfie D (capping off an excellent game) and a powerful run and score for Leon. Following strong defensive work from Ewan and some good kicking from Isaac M and Dan B, the scores were still level with 5 minutes remaining

With everything set up for a grandstand finish, following a sustained period of pressure we were able to find the breakthrough we needed with another powerful run and excellent try scored by Rupert

Player of the match for an all-round excellent performance and huge impact on the final outcome was Thomas

There were a lot of things that we did well today an some areas for improvement, but with the commitment and intensity that the boys demonstrated we’ve got no doubt that we’ll continue to move forwards in a positive direction

It is with great sadness Phil Locke, one of our long term bearers, passed away on Saturday 20th September.
A true gentleman, work colleague, friend and team mate. Our thoughts are with Nic, Matthew and the family at this sad time..
Phil’s funeral will take place at South Bristol Crematorium, Wednesday 8th October at 1.30pm. Donations in memory of Phil can be made at https://philip-locke.muchloved.com/
