๐ŸŒฟ FOOTCARE FRIDAY TIP โ€“ Prevent Fungal Nail Infections

Did you know that wearing the same pair of shoes every day can increase the risk of fungal nail infections?

Shoes naturally absorb moisture from your feet during the day. If they don't have time to dry out, it creates the perfect environment for fungal infections to develop.

โœ… Simple tip:
Rotate your shoes and allow each pair 24 hours to dry out fully before wearing them again.

Your feet will thank you.

If you're already dealing with:
โ€ข Thickened or fungal nails
โ€ข Difficult toenails
โ€ข Hard skin or cracked heels

Carey from Feet First Mobile Footcare provides professional home-visit footcare in Forres and within about a 15-minute drive of the town.

Quick question: Do you rotate your shoes or tend to wear the same pair every day?

๐Ÿ“ฉ Message here or call/message Carey or Allan on 07551 175372 if you have any foot heralth concerns.

WHEN DID YOU LAST ACTUALLY LOOK AT YOUR FEET โ€” OR YOUR MUM OR DAD'S?

It sounds like a funny question, but feet are one of those things that get quietly ignored until something becomes a real problem.

Does any of this sound familiar?

โ€ข Toenails that are getting really difficult to manage โ€” thick, curling, or just impossible to reach
โ€ข Sore heels or hard skin thatโ€™s been building up for months
โ€ข An older parent or relative whoโ€™s โ€œfineโ€ but youโ€™ve noticed theyโ€™re moving more carefully than usual
โ€ข Just generally sore feet that you put up with every day

Sometimes a wee bit of professional attention makes such a difference โ€” and for a lot of folk, having someone come to the house means they actually get it sorted.

Anyone else noticing this with family members as they get older? Or maybe youโ€™re dealing with it yourself? ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿ‘Ÿ WEDNESDAY FOOTCARE CHECK: Could your shoes be causing your pain?

Most people wear shoes that don't actually fit well โ€” too narrow, too flat, or too worn out to offer any real support.

Over time, the wrong footwear can lead to heel pain, aching arches, or even issues with your knees and back.

Your feet are your foundation, and what you put on them matters.

Quick tip: Check the soles of your shoes. If they're worn down unevenly, it's a sign your gait may need some attention โ€” and your shoes definitely need replacing.

You don't need expensive trainers, just the right fit for your foot shape. We're here to help. ๐Ÿ‘‹

๐Ÿ‘‰ DIABETIC or CARING FOR SOMEONE WHO IS? ๐Ÿ‘ฃ
If you have diabetes it can damage the nerves and blood vessels to your feet.
As a diabetic it's advisable to check you feet daily. Check for blisters, cuts, callouses, thick or hard skin. Also, redness, swelling and heat may be signs of infection.
If you're noticing any of these signs, it's best to have them checked sooner rather than later.

DID YOU KNOW? ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

Verrucas (plantar warts) are caused by a virus that can enter through tiny breaks in the skin.

They tend to thrive in warm, damp places like communal showers and swimming pool areas.

Has anyone in the family ever had a verruca, and how did you deal with it?

FOOTCARE FRIDAY TIP ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

Calluses (hard skin) are usually caused by pressure or friction โ€” often from shoes or how we walk.

Theyโ€™re the bodyโ€™s way of protecting the skin, but if they build up too much they can become uncomfortable or painful.

I see this quite a bit during visits around Nairn, especially on the heels or ball of the foot.

Keeping them under control early makes a big difference to comfort.

๐Ÿ‘‰ One thing I always take time to do ๐Ÿ‘ฃ
As a Foot Health Practitioner, one thing I always take time to do during a visit is gently clear the build-up around the sides of the toenail โ€” especially on the big toes. By creating a channel, ingrown toenails can often be prevented.
Itโ€™s a small thing, but it can make a big difference to comfort when walking.
Iโ€™ve seen quite a few cases like this during visits, and often people donโ€™t realise how much pressure itโ€™s causing until itโ€™s sorted.
