Out and about in town, I often spot my lovely facial clients walking their dogs and my first thought is always… have they got their SPF on?

Have they applied enough product?
Have they missed those easy-to-forget areas like around the hairline or the sides of the nose?

At this time of year, the sun is rising earlier and becoming stronger, so daily SPF isn’t optional, it’s essential. If you’re heading out for a longer dog walk, think about adding extra protection like a hat and sunglasses too

And if you’re planning to sit in a beer garden around lunchtime, don’t forget… you’ll need to top up your SPF! That midday sun is stronger than you think

For those who say, “but I need the sun for vitamin D”… it actually only takes around 10–15 minutes of sun exposure to top up your levels. You can easily do this by exposing areas like your arms, your face doesn’t need to take the hit!

Also, a gentle reminder your skincare doesn’t stop at your jawline. Your neck and décolleté need just as much love and protection as your face

You might have noticed that dermaplaning isn’t a treatment I provide at the clinic and I want to explain why, so you can feel confident in the treatments you choose.

Dermaplaning involves using a blade to remove dead skin cells and fine “peach fuzz” hair. While it can leave the skin feeling instantly smooth, it’s not always the best option for long term skin health.

Here’s why I choose not to offer it ⬇️

➡️ Skin health comes first
Dermaplaning is a form of physical exfoliation, and for many skins especially sensitive, reactive, or acne-prone, it can cause irritation, inflammation, and even worsen breakouts.

➡️ Barrier disruption
Your skin barrier is everything. Repeated scraping of the skin can compromise this barrier, leading to increased sensitivity, dryness, and vulnerability.

➡️ Breakout risk
For clients prone to congestion or acne, dermaplaning can spread bacteria across the skin, potentially triggering further breakouts.

➡️ There are better alternatives
I focus on results driven treatments that support your skin long term, improving texture, clarity, and overall skin health without compromising your barrier.
