Working on an old Maverick today for Kyle.

At some point the pots were swapped out for split shaft versions. If you know Maverick guitars, you'll know they use roller volume and tone (basically sideways mounted) pots. The problem with split shafts is that they distort with the k***s tightened on and then the controls spin off centre and foul on the wood. Added to this is the 20 year old wiring that decided to crap out as it was disturbed.

Using the correct solid shaft mini pots transforms the guitar and it's so much nicer to use. Electrics are sorted, so there's a setup to follow with a little fretwork and it should be restored to its former glory.

Transformed...now, don't do it again..!

Setup with 8's on both necks. As ever, they're a pain in the arse when you get to the inner tuning keys....that is unless you design and construct a string winder that works between the headstocks. Now I just need to patent it and refine it as it makes restringing as quick as a single neck guitar.

FM South America Tour preparations.

In for an overhaul and setup, the famous Seafoam Green Strat of Mr Steve Overland.

Stiv has this one setup with Elixir 10s in D standard. It's about to go with him on a number of flights, through several countries, climates and altitudes, all of which affect the instruments (and the band). I'm sure it might need another adjustment once he returns to the UK but at least I know it's started off on the right foot.

Hopefully it's all plain sailing and despite the brutal travel schedule the guys have an amazing time on their Indiscreet 40th Anniversary Tour.

Heads up...A new endorsement with Resonairr Strings....!!!

Actually that's a lie, my own missus doesn't even endorse me, so no one is going to give me strings now are they.....!

Saying that, I have been sent a couple of sets of these to gig with and assess from a guitar tech point of view.

It's maybe as an additional offering to Rotosound. They're pitched as longer lasting than regular strings, but without the coating of Elixirs. I'll let you know how I get on with them.

They're only slightly more costly (£11.99) than the usual £10 a pack that strings cost these days, so if the claims are true, then they could be worth stocking as a choice.

Information post... I'm still getting guitars dropped off with strings supplied. Whilst Amazon and eBay are pretty safe platforms, they don't vet the products, so here's a few comparisons of Fake Ernie Ball strings Vs Genuine.

Fake is on the left and

The packaging overall is larger and sometimes there's no punched hanging hole.
Serrated edge is much coarser.
The back seal is flattened.
The foil packaging is dull rather than reflective.
The colour of the packaging is more pus green/luminous than the genuine article.

**Always buy from your local music store, such as The Rhythm House in Stoke. You might get think you're saving a few £s but these fakes are utter garbage and if they even tune up, they'll be dead in a week**
