A slit lamp examination is an important part of a comprehensive eye test
Using a specialised microscope and focused beam of light, this assessment allows optometrists to examine the front structures of the eye in detail, including the cornea, lens, and eyelids.

It plays a key role in the early detection of a range of eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, infections, and dry eye disease—often before symptoms are noticeable. It’s especially useful for evaluating:
•Tear film quality
•Dry eye severity
•Irritation or allergies

Some eye issues don’t cause symptoms at first. A slit lamp can reveal:
•Microscopic scratches (e.g., from contact lenses)
•Infections or inflammation
•Early lens clouding (cataracts)
•Signs linked to systemic diseases (like diabetes)

Sometimes special dyes (like fluorescein) are used to highlight problem areas.
The procedure is quick, non-invasive, and provides valuable information to support accurate diagnosis and ongoing eye health. Regular eye examinations, including slit lamp assessment, are essential for maintaining good vision and overall eye health.

Introducing Our Latest Couple to Experience Jacksons Styling Opticians.

We were thrilled to welcome Clifton and Debra to our practice, both of whom have selected our Xtractive Transition Lenses, with Crizal Drive. Notably, Clifton opted for the additional polarising feature, while Debra chose to have hers glazed into an L.A. Eyeworks frame and Clifton selected a handmade Tom Davies frame. We think both of them look amazing and super stylish.
