Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy is a hands-on remedial therapy that utilizes small, precise skin movements to stimulate receptors to affect the body's neural pathways, pain response, soft tissues and promote the body's own natural healing response.

Keep it in the family!

When a lady visited recently, and was pleased with her BOWEN experience, her sister started to visit too.

She was also very happy and their mum came for her first time yesterday!

3 appointments with the same family in a day ❤️

Anyone who knows me, knows my personality is more suited to Therapy, and I am no salesman by any means.

Thankfully, experiencing BOWEN speaks for itself, when people feel it's benefit and they want it to help their loved ones!

3 W's following your BOWEN session:

Water:
To keep hydrated and help the body process the changes

Walk:
Walking helps to integrate the soft tissue work, encourage the movement of fluids and is good for our mental health

Wait:
You may experience changes during the session but more likely things will adapt over the following 3 - 5 days!

The pain you experience is usually not the site of the primary spasm leading to the problem.

The tissues are a whole body and continuous.

Science has separated the tissues to understand them which is very useful but we should not lose sight of the whole!

BOWEN is a whole body approach, through palpitation and assessment we can look for primary spasm areas and other areas of tension and soreness to help the area that is restricted or painful.

When the BOWEN moves release tension and allow the skeleton to find its normal structure, this can have a positive effect on the internal body functions.

As the internal compressions and tensions are released, it can allow blood and fluid to flow more freely, it can give more space for the organs, lungs, diaphragm and abdomen to work, the nerve flow to muscles and organs can improve, sleep, relaxation and the body's rest and recovery state can be enhanced.

Often people can arrive expressing a tight muscle or area of pain and leave with a host of other benefits!

The fascial system (think of the white shiny bits when you cut raw chicken) combines tough fibres with gel and fluid and wraps around and throughout the whole body, it surrounds every organ, and binds the whole system into shape.

The BOWEN moves release the fascia, allowing it to rehydrate like a sponge and giving space for the muscles and body to relax into.

I attended my first Bowen course in my twenties and was fascinated by this gentle therapy that could have an amazing positive effect.

I also loved feeling tissue that was tight and sore on palpitation and then would relax and feel okay following Bowen moves.

Of course I was really pleased when people reported changes, particularly when pain stopped.

I have done and experienced many therapies since, but have kept coming back to my love of Bowen! It still fascinates me to this day every time tissue relaxes following Bowen moves.

Mr R' came in for his first session today, following a recommendation from a friend.

He has recently had thigh pain, and longer term lower back pain and trouble with both shoulders.

On assessment he had a scoliosis with one hip higher than the other and one shoulder higher than the other with very limited trunk rotation and shoulder flexion.

This limits some of his daily activities.

On palpitation he had tight and tender thigh muscles, very very tight hamstrings and tension and tenderness in his abdominal muscles.

Bowen' moves were given to relieve tension in these areas and by the end of the session his hips and shoulders were much more level, his spine much straighter than it was.

He was then able to fully rotate his chest and raise each arm above his head.
