⚠️ REDs & LEA ⚠️

Let’s talk about something that doesn’t get enough attention.
Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs) and Low Energy Availability (LEA) happen when your body doesn’t have enough energy to support both:
– Daily life
– Training

When energy intake doesn’t match energy output, the body starts conserving. And that impacts:
– Physical health
– Hormones
– Recovery
– Performance
– Mental wellbeing

At Moveology, we believe movement should support your health, not compromise it.

Over the next few weeks, we’re breaking this down so you know what to look out for 💛

Hey Lottie!
🏋️ Deadlifts hurt my lower back?

Lower back pain during deadlifts usually comes from technique, not the lift itself.

🚩 Common culprits
- Poor hip hinge
- Bar too far from shins
- Rounding under load
- Weak glutes & core

✅ How to try and correct it
1. Neutral spine - Brace your core, ribs stacked over pelvis
2. Bar over mid-foot - Keep the bar close
3. Push the floor away - Drive through legs & hips, not your back
4. Engage lats - Squeeze under your armpits, stabilise the bar
5. Reduce weight - Master the technique before loading heavy
6. Fix your mechanics first, your lower back will thank you.

Deadlifts shouldn’t hurt your lower back! 🏋️
Most pain comes from poor hip hinge, rounding, or letting the bar drift forward.

Build strength safely with mastering the technique first.

Introducing Hannah Cooke, Moveology's newest instructor 🙌

"I’m a Level 2 Fitness Instructor, Level 3 Mat Pilates Instructor, and I’m just about to complete my Level 3 Reformer Pilates qualification at the end of March.

Movement has always been a huge part of my life. Growing up surrounded by sport, I’ve explored many corners of the fitness world, from strength training and CrossFit to running half marathons, before finding my way to Pilates. Each chapter has shaped how I teach and how I move today.

My passion is helping others feel confident in their bodies, guiding and motivating you to move better and feel stronger, whether that’s in a small group class or on the reformer beds. I believe movement should feel welcoming but also give you that extra push you didn’t know you had, so you get the most out of every session.

Becoming a mum recently and training right through my pregnancy reinforced just how powerful movement is, especially pre and post birth. It’s more important to me than ever, not just for my clients, but so I can be a strong, positive role model for my little girl.

I can’t wait to move with you, to feel better and move better 🤍."

Ever wondered what our EMS (Electro Muscle Stimulation) sessions are like?

Hear from Kate who is a regular EMS client.

“I began my EMS journey just over 2 years ago following a lower back injury, a bulging disc in my lower back and SI joint dysfunction. My initial goal was rehabilitation, rebuilding strength safely, particularly through my glutes, to better support and protect my back alongside physiotherapy.

EMS quickly became an invaluable part of my recovery. It allowed me to build strength in a controlled, low-impact way and helped restore my confidence in movement without aggravating my injury.

Today, EMS is a permanent part of my weekly fitness routine, alongside reformer Pilates, to ensure my strength is maintained long term. The 20-minute sessions fit easily into my working week and keep me motivated to stay consistent.

Most importantly, EMS has helped me continue moving, building strength and preventing my previous injury from becoming a source of ongoing pain. It’s been a key part of my recovery and something I now rely on to support my body for the future.”

Emotional Health Day ✨
Movement. Breath. Balance.

Emotional and physical health are deeply connected.

When we move our bodies, we release tension, regulate stress hormones and create space for emotional release. Exercise helps us feel stronger, calmer and more grounded and breath work helps us balance and regulate the nervous system. Together they create a safe space to release what the body has been holding onto.

That’s why on Emotional Health Day, we’re proud to collaborate with Mel McDevitt, a certified 9D Breathwork facilitator and Reiki Master, whose work focuses on nervous system regulation, emotional release and deep healing.

Mel’s journey into breathwork began through her own healing, discovering first-hand how powerful somatic breathwork can be in processing emotions, releasing stored stress and reconnecting with yourself on a deeper level. She now supports individuals, schools, studios and communities through 9D Breathwork, helping people heal from trauma, reduce anxiety, manage stress and reconnect with their inner calm.

You can try a 9D Breathwork experience with Mel today by heading over to her bio and pressing on the top link for the FREE FIVE MINUTE ENERGY BOOST. This style of breath work strengthens the diaphragm, optimises oxygen efficiency and accelerates recovery.

You can also book longer 9D Breathwork sessions with Mel or private sessions in her Zen Den.

Enjoy the pause in today, connecting our emotional healthy with our physical wellbeing.

What is Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS)?

EMS works by sending gentle electrical impulses through electrodes placed on the skin, mimicking the brain’s natural signals to create muscle contractions.

These signals activate muscles, including deep muscle fibres that are often hard to reach with conventional exercise, making training and recovery more efficient.

How EMS Works
➡️ Electrodes are placed over specific muscle groups
➡️ Low-frequency electrical impulses are delivered
➡️ Nerves are activated, triggering muscle contractions
➡️ Muscles contract powerfully and effectively
➡️ Intensity is carefully controlled for comfort and purpose

💪 Why EMS is Used
➡️ Rehabilitation: strengthens weak muscles and supports recovery after injury
➡️ Training support: enhances muscle activation and strength gains
➡️ Pain relief: helps reduce pain signals and improve blood flow
➡️ Recovery: supports muscle repair without joint stress
EMS doesn’t replace movement, it supports it.

By amplifying the body’s own electrical signals, EMS helps muscles work smarter, not harder.

At Moveology, EMS is used as part of a balanced approach to training, recovery and long-term strength.
