So ,I completed this book this morning. What a fascinating and informative read if not shocking and sad at the same time. Mental health has shifted and changed in how it reveals itself and is labelled but the overriding message is for me that our brains are so complex that we need to approach mental health with a gentle touch ,with compassion and curiosity towards the person suffering. This has improved but sadly is still sorely lacking. Our system,is just that still,a system which is clinical and it needs a soul, soft edges. The other reminder from the book is that the mental health of a society is a reflection of how society is working. This isn't about wealth and materialism but the spiritual aspect of meaning and connection which I feel is reflected in the huge spread of poor mental health particularly in our youth. The breakdown of community, the lack of hope in a positive future fuels addictions and disassociative behaviour. Worth a read Nikki xx

Psychospiritual therapy and what this actually means

Psychospiritual therapy is a blending of traditional therapeutic approaches (thoughts, emotions, trauma, behaviours, etc.) with a spiritual approach (meaning, values, purpose, transcendence, and connection). I see both aspects as deeply connected and equally important in the healing process. When I write “spiritual,” please note this is not from a religious perspective.

Emotional suffering comes from past experiences and trauma, but also from existential or spiritual concerns such as identity, disconnection, meaning of life, and purpose.

I work from these two perspectives in a grounded and balanced way, while also introducing embodied or somatic-based therapy. This involves working with the body as a key part of healing and embracing the understanding that the mind and body are part of one integrated system, where each can influence the other.

Using evolving methods and insights that recognise emotions, trauma, and memories are stored within the body—informing posture and health—we can open pathways to personal growth and support improved overall health and wellbeing.

I work with the relational space that develops when a safe and honest connection forms between client and therapist. Within this supportive environment, there is space to feel, reflect, explore, and gently reframe old thoughts and behaviours. As trust deepens, intuition, insight, and clarity can naturally emerge.
