Bringing Joy to Care: Good news stories to feel good about! We are so grateful to the Homecare Association for showcasing the incredible work out there in the social care sector each and every day; and for recognising our commitment to championing quality care for people. After all, providing outstanding care to people in their own homes is at the heart of what we and our superb carers do best.
Often the narrative in the media and society perception around social care, is that of negativity. There is so much good to out weight the bad in social care, people who genuinely care about others like they are their own loved ones. We’re so proud to see social care and the amazing carers up and down the country are being recognised for the profession we are!

Carers are just as important to health and social care as our colleagues in nursing 💜 Join a team that cares. A care provider that cares about you too! Leading from the forefront - Exceeding quality, and exceeding the Living Wage… oh we are also the first Living Hours Employer in Domiciliary Care in Wales too 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

When someone living with dementia shows aggression - whether shouting, hitting, or other behaviours - it can be incredibly difficult and distressing for loved ones.

Often, this behaviour is a way for the person to express confusion, fear, pain, or unmet needs they can’t communicate clearly.

People with dementia may feel overwhelmed, frustrated or scared when they don’t recognize what’s happening around them. Understanding these triggers can help carers respond with patience and support.

If you’re supporting a loved one, here are some practical tips that might help:

🔍 Identify triggers: Think about what might have caused the behaviour (i.e. a change in routine). For example, someone who values independence may feel upset if they’re helped with personal tasks.

🎵 Use music to soothe and calm: Try playing their favourite songs, especially during times they tend to get agitated or before challenging activities like bathing.

💤 Prioritise sleep: Tiredness increases frustration. Help the person get enough restful sleep to reduce aggressive episodes.

😌 Create a calm environment: Use comforting items like soft blankets, gentle lighting, nature sounds, or calming scents (lavender works well).

🚨 Look for pain: Signs like rubbing a body part, grimacing, restlessness, or changes in appetite might mean discomfort.

What approaches do you find helpful?

Absolutely incredible! Firstly, Happy 105th Birthday to Peggy 🥳🎂🎈It’s great to read positive and impactful social care stories being shared. Da iawn to her carer for their kindness and deeply human act. This is what social care is all about! It’s more than ‘just wiping backsides and emptying commodes’, which is the common perception of social care. It’s empowering people to live safe and add quality to the years people have… it’s building relationships with people you support and your colleagues. It’s a profession just as strong as nursing… it’s empathy and compassion… it’s social care and we’re proud to have such a superb team at the heart of our community 💜

This is so lovely 🥹 This is Peggy. For her 105th birthday, she told a carer she wanted to feel the sand between her toes again. It broke the carer's heart because they would be unable to take Peggy to the beach - so they brought the beach to her. 💪 The Swansea care home was transformed into the seaside for a day, complete with an ice-cream van, pony, and swimming competition. 🍦 Here's Peggy enjoying her seaside meal. Beautiful! ❤️🏖️

A great way to start the week. We’ve had some lovely feedback from Commissioning today. The compliment is from a social worker and a person we have the pleasure of supporting. We are so proud of our carers and the team as a whole! It’s great when their hard work is recognised 💜
