I am a qualified Play Therapist registered with the British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT). The BAPT register of therapists is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. I am available to provide professional play therapy services to children with a wide range of emotional issues. I have a background in social work and have considerable experience with looked after children and children who have suffered abuse and neglect. I am also able to support children suffering from bereavement, separation and loss. Play has been described as the language of the child because it comes so naturally to them. Children can find it very difficult to express their emotions or process traumatic experiences using words. Play therapy allows the child to play out their feelings and experiences with a safe and trusted adult using toys and art materials. The play therapist supports the child through this process making reflections about the play and the child's emotional state. Sometimes the play therapist will introduce focused play activities specifically tailored to the child's needs. One of the most important elements of the therapy is the relationship the child is able to build with the therapist. Play therapists believe in unconditional acceptance of the child and believe in every child's potential to be the best they can be. In play therapy the child will be treated with patience, empathy and warmth.
