About Me:

Jennifer Land BSc, MA, MSc

I am a qualified Play Therapist registered with the British Association of Play Therapists (BAPT). The BAPT register of therapists is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. I am available to provide professional play therapy services to children with a wide range of emotional issues. I have a background in social work and have considerable experience with looked after children and children who have suffered abuse and neglect. I am also able to support children suffering from bereavement, separation and loss. Whatever the issue please contact me and I will talk to you to find out whether play therapy is suitable for your child. About Play Therapy:

Play has been described as the language of the child because it comes so naturally to them. Children can find it very difficult to express their emotions or process traumatic experiences using words. Play therapy allows the child to play out their feelings and experiences with a safe and trusted adult using toys and art materials. The play therapist supports the child through this process making reflections about the play and the child's emotional state. Sometimes the play therapist will introduce focused play activities specifically tailored to the child's needs. One of the most important elements of the therapy is the relationship the child is able to build with the therapist. Play therapists believe in unconditional acceptance of the child and believe in every child's potential to be the best they can be. In play therapy the child will be treated with patience, empathy and warmth.

I've had quite a few requests for private work recently. Unfortunately I am at capacity and unable to take on new work at this time. Please consult the BAPT website for a list of therapists in your area.

I realise I havent posted in a while. Such a busy bee recently! Anyway I saw this and thought "100% yes!" so decided to share. Everyone goes at their own pace and this most definitely applies to our children. Good old Plato.

Meet Anxious Angie the stress ball! She was fun to make and satisfying to squeeze.

To make your own:
Tip rice into a plastic bottle,
Attach balloon to the bottle,
Squeeze bottle until the balloon fills up with rice,
Tie up the balloon,
Add a face using permanent marker,
Tie wool for hair.

Et Viola! Happy squeezing.

Learning about the differences in brain structure in children with ADHD. What an eye opener! These children are not naughty kids as the stereotype suggests. Their brain maturation is impaired which makes them physically less able to control their impulsivity. Let's squash these old stereotypes and have more compassion for those with ADHD โค
