👩❤️👨They don't need to know your name to know your important to them.

Emotional connection is perserved long throughout dementia.

The person my struggle to verbally express themselves as they may have done previously through this doesn’t mean they have forgotten you.

Here's some things you can do to increase the emotional connection.

💚Touch ~Holding hands and hugs
💜Smile
💚Breathing together
💜Drinking or eating together
💚Build trust by ~Actively listening and vaidating their feelings.
💜Hold space ~ no need to talk, be emotionaly present and be in the moment with the person.
💚Music is powerful, do you have a special song that you share? Or one that provokes positive memories?

🥰 This is a true gift of empathy and compassion

🎄DPP Christmas Party 2024 🎄

What another fantastic turn out today, there were so many happy, smiley faces and everyone had a great time ☺️

Massive thank you to Diane Collier Catering Services for the outstanding pie & peas (as always), The Dodgers for the excellent entertainment, Colne British Legion for the venue, the Mayor of Pendle for coming along and getting involved, to everyone who donated prizes for our raffle, Morrisons Nelson for the mince pies 🥧 and to all the people who bought tickets and attended today, you are all the reason we do this and we will keep on doing, to ensure that together, we make Pendle more positive about Dementia 🦋

The festive season is fast approaching, and you might be planning for celebrations for Christmas, Chanukah, New Year's Eve, or any other events that mean something to you! 🎉 🎄

Over the next week we'll be sharing some helpful hints and tips tailored for this time of year, meaning everyone can feel included, and be as comfortable as possible.

Create a quiet space 🔇

It’s always a good idea to make sure there is somewhere for people to take breaks if feeling overwhelmed by celebrations. A quiet room that’s easily accessible can be a great help. Be sure to check in with those who need additional support throughout the day, and let them know there is a quiet space available.

What are your top tips for supporting loved ones with dementia this festive season?
