Our Officer Commanding, Flying Officer Birchall said "I am incredibly proud of the determination and effort our cadets have put into their individual events. The cadets have done amazing, with this being the first athletics competition for many of our cadets. A huge shoutout to our 3 staff members who volunteered to help in the competition, without them, this wouldn't have been possible".

If you want to join our squadron and spend every week doing something different and exciting, send us a message and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Yesterday, cadets from 1104 and 92 (Chorley) Sqn took on the challenge of Pen-Y-Ghent in the Yorkshire Dales.

With wonderful weather in the morning, the cadets made short work of the steep scramble up the back, showcasing their brilliant skills to adapt to the very exposed terrain!

After a quick lunch at the summit the weather took a turn. Facing advertisty and low cloud cover, the cadets displayed their brilliant ability to work in an adverse environment and quickly zoned in on some excellent navigation techniques.

After dropping down out of the clouds, the cadets practiced some pacing and found an excellent point of interest at Hull Pot, with many discussions around how it was formed and big smiles all round despite the weather.

It was an excellent day walk with the cadets and staff thoroughly enjoying it. We look forward to planning more treks soon! Our thanks to our own CI Seddon and CI Dolan from 1969 (Rossendale) Squadron Air Cadets for taking their time on Father's Day to take the cadets on the walk.

This evening, Sgt Culshaw achieved his Method of Instruction qualification, allowing him to wear the coveted yellow lanyard on his uniform. His lesson was assessed by the Wing Training Officer who gave him excellent feedback on his planning and delivery. This qualification will allow Sgt Culshaw to deliver well developed lessons and teach our junior cadets new skills that will help with civilan or service life in the future. Well done Sgt!!

Bronze Road Marching Day 2 πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ

And that's a wrap on the Bronze Road Marching Weekend. The cadets took a much more scenic route today but covered 447 metres of ascent compared to yesterday's 181 metres. For most cadets this was a practice ready for their bronze qualifier either at the RAF WARMA next month or at another event in the future. For 2 cadets, this was their qualifying walk which earns them their Bronze Road Marching badge, congratulations!

Bronze Road Marching Day 1 πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ

Today, cadets from across Cumbria and Lancashire Wing took part in the first day of their Bronze Road Marching, an increasingly popular activity across the Progressive Training Syllabus. The cadets enjoyed themselves and will definitely sleep well tonight! Fortunately, it only rained for the last 2km of their 20km walk. Tomorrow, they will have to do it all again on a different route but with a much brighter forecast 🌞.

On Thursday, the squadron was visited by Wing Commander Molloy, Officer Commanding Cumbria & Lancashire Wing as part of our Annual Formal Inspection. Wg Cdr Molloy inspected the cadets and viewed some of the activities we get up to on the squadron, including some Presentation Skills assessments (no pressure 😬). At the end of the parade nights he presented some Youth First Aid certificates and Classification badges to cadets who had recently completed a course on the squadron. We thank Wg Cdr Molloy for his time and for presenting the awards.

New OC at 1104 Sqn!

Today we welcome Pilot Officer Thomas Birchall who is the new Officer Commanding 1104 (Pendle) Sqn. Tom originally joined the organisation in 2014 and worked his way up to CWO as a cadet before joining back as a member of staff when he aged out. Tom took on the role of Training Officer and became 2IC of 352 (Burnley) Sqn when he commissioned in February 2023. He is also heavily involved in being a part of the Wing Aviation Team delivering synthetic training to cadets across Cumbria and Lancashire Wing. We would like to welcome Plt Off Birchall to the squadron and look forward to seeing what exciting opportunities and developments he brings. Many thanks to Plt Off Wood who has stepped in over the last few months to help manage the squadron during the absence of an OC.
