Just because you’ve had a baby, you do not have to allow everyone round straight away.

Visitors can come when you feel ready, who & when can be your terms & if they are coming round in those early days, they know where the kettle is & they can bring the snacks with them.

Take time to recoup at home, take time to learn the new dynamics of your family, allow yourselves & any siblings to spend time with each other & the little one without disruption.

Friends & Family need to allow the boundaries without judgement or guilt, understand the time you give them allows time for breastfeeding to become established, bottle feeding routines, allows time for bonding & peace to recoup.

Let’s normalise boundaries & what they support.

Becoming overstimulated and exhausted can lead to angry outbursts, having less patience & being more short tempered is a natural response to being overwhelmed.

Parenting has its amazing times, but it also has times where you feel your loosing yourself.

Just remember a couple of angry outbursts does not make you a bad parent, it makes you human.

When it starts to feel a little overwhelming and you need a minute to ground yourself, try this simple exercise to regain your mind and breathing.

Box Breathing:

Start with breathing in for 4 seconds,
Breath out for 4 seconds
Breath in for 4 seconds
Breath out for 4 seconds

Whilst doing this use your index finger to draw out a box or follow the image with your finger.

Do this as many times as you need to feel relief.

When life feels like control is being lost, one thing to remember is that you can always control your breathing, when it becomes overwhelming focus on breathing to help re-ground your mind, using a simple tool like this one.
