The neck can be a neglected area for massage. Focusing on the base of the skull and neck muscles can bring some much needed relief from tightness and soreness in the neck, shoulders and upper back.

A 30 minute appointment is enough for a really good neck and shoulder massage. For back and neck, 60 minutes is ideal.

I offer evening and weekend-morning appointments. WhatsApp me if you want to know more.

Just been out on my new paddle board in Leasowe Bay. Beautiful day and it’s perfect there for beginners like me because the RNLI are there keeping an eye on everyone. Also the sea doesn’t get too deep till you get a long way out. You could get off and stand up! I’ve used muscles I haven’t worked in a long time so I’ve done my stretching to avoid DOMS (practising what I preach 😂😁)

When you’re doing lat pull downs or swinging a racquet, you’re using your latissimus dorsi muscles.

The lats can also cause back ache if you’re sitting a lot - at a desk or in the car.

Make sure you include them on your stretch list. If you’re suffering with tightness or back pain, please get in touch as deep tissue massage can really help.

😮I’ve noticed some of my clients aren’t stretching as much as they know they should straight after a workout.

Think of it this way. You’ve spent all that time and effort building up your muscles, you’re just wasting some of that effort if you don’t stretch.

Static stretching should be done after every workout. Make sure you’re feeling the stretch where you’re supposed to, and hold for 20 seconds. It will prevent soreness and maximise the benefit of your exercise.

The thinking about icing muscle injuries could be changing. Research is showing that if used for too long, it can delay healing. It’s to do with the cold slowing down the work of macrophages (white blood cells) removing dead tissue, and even stopping them getting to the injured area. We use ice to reduce pain and inflammation. Our bodies are amazing and fascinating!

Massage is super good for promoting muscle healing because it increases blood flow which is what keeps muscles healthy.

If you want to book in for an hour, I can offer evening and weekend-morning slots. I’ve helped many clients reduce muscle pain significantly.

I’ve noticed recently that not all my clients are doing static stretching after their workout. Current research says that you should warm up before exercise, and do stretches afterwards. And of course keep doing those static stretches in between. Static stretching means holding the stretch. And don’t ‘bounce’ the stretches, just hold steady!

I've had a client come to me recently who has been suffering with chronic back and side pain. During the massage I pinpointed a a few muscles that I thought were involved and went to work on them. After a couple of sessions the pain was significantly reduced.

One of the muscles was the latissimus dorsi, commonly known as 'the lats'. I've shown the trigger points I found in orange on the diagram.

The trigger points were not where the client had reported the pain, but working on them reduced the pain in the back and sides.

The latissimus dorsi is one of the largest muscles in your back. It helps control the movement of your shoulders. Injury or dysfunction can cause pain in the low back, mid-to-upper back, along the base of the shoulder blade, or in the back of the shoulder. There might also be pain along the inside of the arm, all the way down to the fingers.

The lats are used a lot in activities that involve throwing and pulling, like swimming, rowing and swinging a raquet.

If you're suffering with muscular back pain, why not book in for a deep tissue massage today.

Happy 2023! If you've started the year with a promise to yourself to get fitter and tone your muscles, don't forget to include some regular deep tissue massage to keep them in great shape and reduce DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) after your workout :)

I offer evening and weekend slots to work around busy lives.
