A recent UK study offers promising insights into how testosterone combined with HRT may improve mood and cognition during perimenopause and menopause.

Involving 920 women with significant mood symptoms, the research found that hormone therapy including transdermal testosterone led to nearly a 50% reduction in mood symptoms like irritability, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Women already on oestrogen and progestogen saw similar improvements when testosterone was added.

Cognitive benefits were also notable, with over half reporting better energy, concentration, and memory.

This evidence highlights the important role testosterone therapy may play in managing menopause symptoms beyond just hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

If mood changes, brain fog, or low energy are affecting your daily life during menopause, discussing testosterone as part of your treatment plan with a healthcare professional might be worth considering.

Starting hormone replacement therapy (HRT) earlier in menopause may offer more than just symptom relief.

📊 Evidence from large studies shows a 39% reduction in all-cause mortality when HRT is started before age 60 or within 10 years of your last period. In other words, it may support overall health and longevity when used at the right time.

This supports the “timing hypothesis” - the idea that early initiation matters. In contrast, benefits appear more limited when HRT is started later in life.

🧬 While HRT isn’t an anti-ageing treatment, emerging research suggests it may have a favourable effect on biological ageing - though current NICE guidance does not recommend HRT solely to prevent age-related disease.

As always, it’s about what’s right for you. Speak with a healthcare professional about your options and timing.

How to recognise your final period before menopause

It is a question many women ask as they move through perimenopause, a time of hormonal fluctuation, shifting cycles, and symptoms that can feel both confusing and unpredictable.

Your final menstrual period is a significant milestone, marking the natural end of your reproductive years. But recognising when it has happened is not always straightforward. Some women experience dramatic changes in flow or cycle length, while others notice very little difference at all.

Understanding the signs, like missed periods, changes in bleeding patterns, or new symptoms such as hot flushes or mood shifts, can help you feel more informed and supported as you navigate this change.

Swipe right to find out:

- What your final period might look like
- Symptoms to expect before menopause
- The 12-month rule for confirming menopause
- What comes next and when to seek medical advice

Every experience is different, but you are not alone. For expert-led support at every stage, our specialist team is here to help.

“I thought I was going mad… then I realised it was perimenopause.” Can you relate?

If this sounds familiar, you are not alone. Many women describe their perimenopause symptoms, like mood swings, anxiety, brain fog, disrupted sleep, and hormonal changes, as overwhelming and confusing.

But what you are experiencing is real, and there is support.

Perimenopause is a natural change, often caused by fluctuating hormones, including falling progesterone and erratic oestrogen. Recognising it as hormone imbalance, not personal failure, can be a powerful step toward feeling like yourself again.

Treatment options like HRT, lifestyle support, and personalised care can help ease symptoms and improve your quality of life.

❗️You are not going mad. You are going through perimenopause. And you do not have to do it alone.

We would love to hear from you, how has your experience of perimenopause or menopause felt? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
